Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2
Whats with not wearing helmets??
Talking about the campaign here.

Am I the only one who finds it weird that the main 3 never wear a helmet in the story. I know nothing about this universe (and I don't remember the first game) but it looks wrong to not have the helmet on majority of the time.

Its one thing to be the dude with a face mask but outside of that its weird.

People like to see faces of their heroes, that's why visual stories tries their best to not shown important characters with it. The only exceptions are like Mandalorian etc.
Additionally in 40k universe, armor is less important than Emperor's protection.
I feel that isn't true and thats just what hollywood wants you to believe. People have always complained that people don't use their helmets enough and it ruins immersion.
From the Mandalorian, to Iron-man, space marines here, any sci-fi war movie for some reason, Boba Fett show, Masterchief, starlord, you can go back to really old movies like judge Dredd too. Also anytime someone is ridin a motorcycle they never wear a helmet which has had a big impact on public safety since now its just "cool" not to ride with one like Tom Cruise.

Yes there is an option to turn helmets on but in cutscenes they still don't have them on. How hard is it for the devs to understand that if the SM are not on the ship they should have their f-ing helmet on? I don't care if its a cut-scene leave the helmet on. Just pure laziness from the devs, instead of having your character in the cut-scene they recorded it and no matter the cosmetics or helmet option its the one they recorded you see.
Did someone ♥♥♥♥ in your bed man? Laziness??? My man, they literally put effort into each expression on their face, wtf are you on about? "Being angry just to be angry Brother."
I am member of the Space Wolves, we don`t wear Helmets! For Leman Russ and for the Emperor
Story time, on the tapasty of Bayeus (that really long french cloth), William the King is shown removing his helmet to inspire morale.

"The Bayeux Tapestry shows William raising his helmet to reveal himself to his troops, after a rumour that he has been killed."

Is he the orginal Speesh Merine, no.. but its a fun story.
The real reason is the minis of 40k have helmetless options, the more senior units like HQ's or people like Dante or Calgar often came without helmets (in modern times most models have an option for head or helmet which is a godsend for people that hate to paint eyes). So that has tended to carry across to 40k video games.

In the 40k universe itself it's not really that crazy since you have commissars, castellans, Catachans, priests etc going into battle with just a hat or less as part of their standard uniform. In universe a guy removing his helmet probably wouldn't even strike them as overly weird, especially when they're as durable and can heal/regenerate like a primaris can.

Basically people in the 40k universe are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ nutters by default.
Codex Astartes says literally "Always wear helmet, imbecile"

correct me if im wrong i think some space marines preferred it since their helmets restrict some of their vision and makes them more aware of their surroundings
but it could also come down to combat experience since inside the space marine helmets they have basically aim assist servos and cause of that the space marines got so use too it they no longer prefer wearing helmets
The opposite, the helmets are high tech and save some exceptions like the space wolf's, the helmet usually enhances the perception of any space marine.
if you wear a full face helmet you can't show human emotion which makes it harder (but not impossible) to tell a story.
they spent tens of millions on facial animations. you should play with helmets off.
Long Story Short: Making face casts out of resin/pewter was far more expensive than a blocky standard beaky boi helmet/head.
Therefore, your general line boi is wearing his helmet.
Whereas your special characters which were as expensive as the entire box of marines has a nice face sculpt.

Everything else is fluff.
I mean.... The Emperor himself doesnt wear a helmet.

Yes, named characters in the tabletop tend to show their faces so the public recognizes them and these looks become iconic.

But it's also been a common trope in the tabletop for people to not give officer models helmets when they build their squads.

I understand some argumentations for Space Marines that prefer to not wear a helmet. But When they give me the Option to wear a helmet, it feels weird, when they stand still unwear them in cutscenes, like for whatever reason, the space marine thinks, now I unwear my helmet to talk 1m with my mates, and then put it on back? Since they care about?

I would prefer 3 options, helmet all the time, at least on enemy locations, and only on the ship not, helmet in combat but not in cutscene, and no helmet at all... so everyone would be pelased.

Like someone said, I don't see any Reason for the marines to remove the helmet, when they talk... one argumentation was, to see their emotions. Dunno, That are breeded ultra killer machines, I don't care about their face expressions and emotions.

The Emperor also not landing on Tyrannid infested Planets, possible breath toxic atmosphere, and crushing hordes of enemys :D
its for immersion purposes. 40k isnt about logic, its sci-fi.
