I can explain to you why they look nothing like Guliman now, it is due to GW trying to get rid of original "racist" Spacemarines who are separated into different legions, and all the founding legions are white except for the white scars, but in the ESG universe they are building now (hello femstodes, yes it is reality now) you can not have separate legions with totally white people, you need to race mix them, it is the idea that is pushed by the LGTV+++ community and is a recent 20th century construct, and since GW wants that sweet ESG money they rolled out the primaris to remove real spacemarines from the lore completely eventually and to attach to them the NEW identity, and if you google, you can still find the firstborn salamanders all white (with charcoal skin) all ultras white, all the imperial guard captains to be males, all the ruling theocracy of mechanicum, and so on, the concepts were designed originally by Jes Goodwin & CO and the writers - white males Bryan Ansell, Richard Holliwe and Rick Priestley for white male audience. Last to leave the company was Rick Priestley in 2009 saying that the company was not interested in innovation anymore and only in profit (greed took over the execs) Times changed, crazy people are now outside mental asylums, and since the Warhammer IP went mass pop the tourists flooded the newly discovered universe to find it unwelcoming and very dark and "racially and sex wise segregated" And ofc as an invasive pest they couldn't handle that and needed to change it. The rathole goes deep with racemix ideology, but the reason of GW's craze is very on the surface, it is pure greed, nothing more.

Space Marines do not look like their Primarch unless the geneseed has a mutation like Raven Guard or Salamanders.

Most Space Marines look exactly like they did when they were human, just bigger.

I do understand some of this. I prefer to play space wolves but the voice/face is immersion breaking as they look/sound nothing like a space wolf...

your wrong its written in the books that the blood angles emperors children iron hands lunar wolves and space wolves bear traits that make them look more like their primarch than anyone else BEING THAT THEY ARE THE SONS OF THEIR GENE FATHERS

You are correct, but I think the core of the conversation was not about traits but them becoming full on mini clones of the primarch.

Space wolves for example will grow fangs and sprout hair all over their body. but their skin, hair and general core features will remain the same as they were before becoming a space marine. (there are a few exclusions where space wolves will grow snouts and some even full on Wolven but these are generally considered to be bad mutations not a desired or fully expected results.)
I cant speak too much to the other chapters as I only really focus or know the history of the space wolves.
