Latest patch removed Epic Online Services
After the small patch was applied and I started the game, it asked for admin rights and uninstalled Epic Online Services completely. It's no longer there !

Nice!

Now I get an error message in-game before the menu. It says "EOS Log-in error". But functionally doesn't seem to make any difference.

Yeah, no. It's still there. maybe you dont know what the task manager is ? Who knows.

Anyone else getting errors ? When continuing the campaign, it says cannot play online and asks to continue offline. I'm not sure if this is because the Epic Services were removed or something else ?

Nope it's gone. Restart steam and start game, it will apply a patch that removes EOS.

You get a pop up that explicitly states that you should verify your game files on steam.

It will reinstall a newer version of EOS.

Ffs ! Why remove it if it needs to be reinstalled anyway lol.
I thought I could just ignore that error and continue. Doing Steam Integrity check now, thanks !

Epic Online Services is required for cross play. They should keep this to support a bigger and healthier player base. Please do some research into these things without freaking out for no reason.
The only issue is that they didn't tell people it would be installed. Hopefully, they're more transparent going forward.

I don't care if there is EOS or not EOS as long as I can play :)

After doing a Steam Integrity check and restarting game, it reinstalls EOS again. Everything is back to normal now !

Make the EOS players install Steam.

I just uninstalled EOS after it auto installed. Game works perfectly fine without EOS, just ignore the message that its missing EOS files. I only see PS and PC players during operations but thats fine, don't need EPIC users to get a full team.

Is epic forced/required? I did initially delete the install script and the game ran but it displayed errors about epic online services not being available.

I see some comments that it runs but what is the limitations of that? My epic account is linked to steam but I don't have the client nor do I really care to have it

When you already have an EPIC account, why do you delete the crossplay feature?
Epic isn't forced or requiered, the game just automatic installs EPIC Online Service so that you can cross play with people using EPIC as their distribution platform.

So uninstalling EOS leads to an ingame message on loading that you miss the files and you will have a smaller player base to play with thats all.

I got the same error, verified the game files through Steam, and it still says the files are missing. So it does not reinstall them.
