Hot Take: Melee Combat
The melee combat feels way off. Maybe I'm missing something, but the melee combat feels awful to me. You can't parry when more than one medium/big enemy is attacking you and dodging feels useless.

Besides those 2 things, there is no weight or impact behind the melee attacks. Clipping seems to be an issue as well.

The shooting is incredible though. Heavy and impactful.

Anyone else feel the same way about the melee? Anybody have the same issue and then it *clicked* for them?

Totally agreed, OP.

I thought it was me needing to git gud, but there's loads of threads like this popping up.
I wonder if it's fixable? I mean, it's like the base mechanics of the game.
Yes, melee combat would be much better if it were done like in the Batman series of games

Its because the healing mechanic is so crap. The med things barely heal you then you only can get health back with a white bar from melee that you only have at the start of a round because you then spend the rest of the mission basically surviving of execute armors. Melee and range damage seems pretty much unavoidable to point you are never going to be over like 1/4 health. You can parry every attack apart from red so not sure why there is a blue parry marker. People saying you have to time it? Time what they all attack you relentlessly lol there is no skill to it and the parry window on blue is really long. The combat systems just feels a bit off, its arguably worse than its predecessor which sadly kind of sums up gaming now.

The trouble with shooting is when enemy going to "execute" state, they receive shield absorbing any incoming damage. Typical situation is you shoot some rangers and you cant execute them because of distance.

Combat in the first game was alright.
Then they had to "fix" it and ended up creating an annoying confusing mess.

lmfao why did they take away heal on execution
Øv Sep 6, 2024 @ 8:13am
i agre and i also think that the dodge system cut be more forgiving

i suggest stay on the first mission on normal, where you have to hold the horde off, once the npcs are safe the Horde just keeps coming, go back down the rampart so they dont shoot at the nids and the astartes dont use skills and just keep hacking at the swarm until you get down how to stay alive without ultimate.

You need to be OVER 0 healthpoint to survive the whole game, so having 1/4 health is totally fine...you dont get chip damage if you keep up your armor, you can sprint, dodge, roll, to not get hit, or to make space, all can be chained into a spin attack that makes more space andstuns, so u get armor from killshot after.
blue circles are not parry, they are counters, they are longer animations, seemingly give invincibility while its going on,give 2 armor when it kills small enemies, and ends up in a stunshot for big damage on large enemies.
and if you manage to keep this up for a minute you will have a big shiny button in the middle of the screen flashing up that makes you literally unkillable.

im curious how long it took you guys to finish the tutorial.

Dude if I'm 1/4 health for 90% of the mission and can only gain that back through a consumable I'm not going to be out there trying to melee enemies and risk getting downed because there's a ton that are all going to swarm me and take away like all my armor like I'm playing helldivers 2

I love the arkham series but just no, it would not be better if it became "Hit one button to win 90% of the time" you have tools to deal with every situation in this. Use em.

It literally just needs to heal on finishers like in the first game. Every other healh related problem becomes managable after that change because you have a lot of small health packs running around.
