Dodge Feels Useless? Block Indicator Inconsistent?
Having played the first game back when it was still fresh for a few hundred hours, dodging was exceptionally useful to avoid damage and get some distance from enemies.

However so far in this version, while getting swarmed by the enemy instead of rolling out of the way you do this strange little side step/hop first? Similar to how Devastators in SM1 worked or the light jump-pack jump. Preventing you from gaining any meaningful distance and letting the swarm overwhelm you.

I feel it would work better if we were able to hold the dodge key to roll rather than being forced to double-tap it and take that extra damage during said step/hop.

Similarly the Parry/Block does not seem to always provide the blue indicator for some heavy attacks, has anyone else experienced this? With how important it is to the core combat against larger enemies it makes it a bit confusing when I have to either rely on it. Or do my best to see the enemy telegraph its attack with hundreds of other smaller foes chewing my HP apart.

I struggle too and don't get the timing

Yeah, I'm finding both the dodge and parry to be inconsistent at best, and outright worthless at worst, I think a part of the parry problem is the 1,000 Gaunts attacking at different times interrupting your perfect parry and stunlocking you into taking damage, honestly a lot of the game feels untested

Yes i have exactly the same experience, combat is messy and very hard to read. Also gun shot ability moves my camera right behind my character, obscuring vision. Lock on sometimes locks far right from intended target.
Game looks great, but combat is a mess.

Combat is really clunky

Further nit-picking a bit here - Im finding the mission to DEFEND THE ANTENNA to be EXTREMELY irritating. For starters, there is literally no cover, and since the game insists you fight in melee to heal, it also spawns a ton of RANGED enemies to punish you. While also throwing Melee units at you in 2's or 3's to keep you occupied so you can't actually do the objective.

I have failed this over 10 times, getting so close only for it to throw 2 of the Psyker-Type enemies at me and literally smite me. I think I've come to realize what the core of the issue is though compared to the first game.

Executions (at least on Angel of Death) Do. Not. Heal. You get ONE shield token back which is immediately taken away by basic enemies, leaving you entirely exposed in melee to dying. Fury also does not passively heal you like in SM1 adding to the punishment of entering melee while being shot.

It likely is a fine experience in co-op but as a singleplayer experience it is woefully unfair to a bit of a near-extreme. When every mission has you die at minimum, once just to be able to progress because you lost that free revive token - It needs a second look.

(Edit - It seems executions only heal up to the white bar, which drains rapidly. So yeah executions are basically freakin' useless it seems)

I'm having a tough time too. Doesn't help that the game feels a bit ♥♥♥♥ on KBM IMO. Also, the ranged enemies do not stand out from regular enemies, blend in to the scenery and have an absolutely aids status effect for some reason. I'm also not happy they made hip fire so unreasonably ♥♥♥♥.

Part of the reason this game is so brutal on veteran and higher is because the companion AI are damn near useless. I've caught them more often than not letting enemies live because they're in the execution state, miles away from me instead of just finishing them off, walking into walls slashing at nothing ( happens in the antenna bit with the destroyed ...I think it was a tank in the 2nd antenna ) REFUSING to attack immediate threats in the area, and they have a very high tendency to ignore ANYTHING that is a ranged enemy unless they are all ranged enemies attacking you. The AI is BAD. Also forgot to mention, they never use their abilities, and when they do it's a complete waste. The shockwave ability one of your guys can do, has been used exactly 1 time in almost 6 hours of game time. The ♥♥♥♥ guys?

I don't like it. Hope its something they can tinker with and make it better,

I genuinely think if they just made Fury and Executions heal HP like in the first game, it would solve most of my problems. Combat wouldn't be so unnecessarily punishing anymore for a PvE game, letting you focus on the melee and ignore the shooters as well as miss some dodges and parry's. The medkits would still see use as a proper emergency item too.

On Veteran or higher - I think what really kills a lot of the vibe are the ranged units pelting you along with the comically bad AI which really hurts those defense missions.

Agreed, healing on execution feels like the missing piece.

This is the mission that brought me to a screaming halt. Couldn't do it on veteran, but I did get good enough to be able to survive, but there's just too many enemies between me and the antennae's. Once the flying psychic things appear, it's over. I don't have the firepower to take them down quickly enough.

So I pulled it back to normal and still got defeated twice! I decided to take a break at that point. Feels to me like this mission wasn't playtested that much before. Hopefully a side effect of playing at early access and they'll reduce the difficulty here with a patch down the track, cos it is damn tough!

Honestly, feels like the game wasn't playtested at all for the most part LOL, so many of the Bolters are basically garbage, controls are clunky, some missions are just outright painful even on Normal...

Dodge are good and can be crucial on spesific situation, yet you also need to put parry in between for maximum execution

Because you are not supose to sit in the back shooting everything unless you are heavy & using plasma or heavy bolter
