Disabling XMP/EXPO is literally the dumbest thing one could suggest. That's like "fixing" the temperature of your CPU by downclocking it to 1GHz.
That said, most that pay attention to their PC temperatures will shut off the game at that point.
I mean yes any temp lower than 100C is '"safe", that doesn't mean it's super healthy to have it consistently super high.
Now the problem is that it's not some generation defining masterpiece, pushing visuals and features to new heights.
It's getting those temps IN THE MENU TOO AND WHEN THERE IS NOTHING HAPPENING. So there clearly is a hardware compatibility issue somewhere, and it should be fixed.
I think I found the culprit. After installing the latest BIOS update (0x129 which is supposed to keep your rig from using too much voltage) I looked further into it now.
CPU Lite Load was set to Mode 18 by said update. Turned it all the way down to 6 as it was before and guess what:
20 to 30 degrees less temperature, hovering around 65 to 80 max now, which is absolutely fine for a 14900K.
I guess Intel/MSI really want to kill some CPUs.
Someone finally with a brain here , the problem here is mobo manufacturer's dumb auto settings , lower cpu lite load value and use a good custom voltage offset and you wont even cross 60 degrees on a 13700k
Remember, these chips are used in data-centres and other environments where they run at those temperatures 24/7/365.
I don't much like it either. I've been using PCs long enough to remember when seeing a temperature like that was "stab the power button" panic levels. But it's where we are now and both Intel and AMD assume that their chips will spend a lot of time up against the heat limit and throttled. The throttling means that you shouldn't get to the point where a shutdown is necessary, unless the coolant pump or a key fan has failed.
I can’t lower my Lite Load below 12 without losing major performance on my 14700k…
