If we're talking just loyalists ... maybe Black Templars (even though I loved playing them in Conquest); their whole ultra-zealous thing is pretty boring.
Nah but seriously, the whole Idea should be really awesome like, Space Vikings, how awesome is that. And what do we get? Wolfy McWolferson, Wolflord on Thunderwolf with Wolfsword. God I hope Russ returns as Space Odin and not as a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Wulfen.
orkz is the best
For all their brutality and sadism against vastly weaker opponents, they tend to crumble away pretty fast when forced against equally strong foes or in an open battle.
For Loyalists, Marines Malevolent.
Bunch of A-holes, who are not even above murdering one another out of spite or personal gains. Plus, they are known for stealing Arms and Armor from both dead Loyalists and Traitors alike.
The Space Wolves get old for the same reason. Every other rank, weapon, and vehicle associated with them has "wolf" in its name somehow. No wonder Horus had to change his legion's name; Russ completely ruined 'wolf' for everybody else.
simply because of the rune priest situation hypocrisy.
The whole are they/aren't they loyal thing kiiinda doesn't matter at this point. If they were loyal, they already F'd up their mission, and if they weren't, they lost anyway. Now the Alpha Legion can pretty much do anything authors need them to, because they aren't necessarily even a cohesive legion with a single goal anymore.
It gets even more confusing, when you read their novels.
In "Harrowmaster", they held a meeting with various Alpha warbands and some of them are still properly loyal to the Imperium.
