Also combat knife is best melee weapon imo, although specialized to take out the big single targets.
Trick is learning to parry properly.
It has 3 aoes the most aoes of any melee weapon in the game as far as I know. Definitely not just single target.
Try running thunderhammer or power sword in cleave mode. Its a world of difference. With those you swing and everything in a 3 mile radius around you just dies, even enemies that are standing behind you. With the knife you can be happy if you hit more than 1 target period.
Yes but the cleaving of it in non existent.
My general Space Marine 2 knife tips (That said, admittedly far from a expert):
- Avoid using it unless you have to. If you are facing Tyranids there are most of the time a major enemy nearby for you to snipe and whose death kill the nearby lesser beasts, alternatively you can stealth away, or simply retreat towards allies more suited for the task (don't lead them into a heavy or something unless you are sure he can handle it).
- You can choose the direction you will hit stuff with your movement keys, since the gaunts often take turns this might allow you to hit the one that is winding up its attack (since the knife is fast) avoiding some damage.
- Mixing in some heavy attacks tends to knock enemies down allowing you to do a pistol execution to regain some armor. The game does different heavy attacks depending on how many light attacks you have done before it in the same combo, experiment with what works for you.
Depending on difficulty the scouts melee knife can be more suited for taking down gaunts then (as a example) a thunder hammer or power fist, simply because of the speed. But you do have less armor then a melee class.
I really like the sniper. I often come in clutch when my team mates die. Helping them when they get swarmed also is fun.
Initiation: When your going to initiate an attack it's best to charge full sprint and attack which causes a short stagger in most cases.
Continual: Mix in 2 or 3 light attacks to a heavy during continual knife attacks on elite level enemies to stun lock and damage. Knife attacks are fast enough you can down one rather quickly.
Defensive: On a perfect dodge two fast attacks can be done before executing the gun attack. Perform a heavy fully and cloak reposition and fire.
The knife has a tendency to stagger most enemies on light attacks after initial heavy stagger abuse it's speed.
