You know our ears are on the sides of our head, we're not like Foxes with forward facing 'radars' (although theirs can turn)
if you can't hear someone speaking if you aren't facing their direction then i have bad news for you
To the OP:
Knowing your Audio setup will help a LOT. Can you expand on it?
Are you on headphones or speakers? 2, 2.1, or 5.1+?
Headphones USB or with separate amp etc?
"Surround" or "stereo" headphones?
Do you have "Virtual surround" or any of the windows surround settings on?
I suggest turning them off.
I don't know if this game supports Dolby Virtual surround or Spatial Audio... it's certainly not listed in the audio options.
The above are common causes of channel mismatches in audio - but can also be amazing when well implemented (check the audio in Horizon: Forbidden West).
Sometimes the way these are programmed is not correct with how it "speaks" to your audio setup.
Some suggestions:
Note 1:
If on headphones Check any control panel app that came with them (eg corsair) which may have DSP options to offset the games issues.... or they can be causing it.
Note 2:
Try different channel layouts and see if it fixes it.
In one game I found 5.1 not working properly, I used 7.1 sometimes because it feeds more rear audio that my system sees as "rear surround" because i only have 5.1.
I do not notice the loss of volume you are describing - I do think it could be a setup issue. That means we should be able to sort it for you.
Myself, I use an AVR with 4.1 (virtual centre) and tell games to send 5.1 or above so it is multiplexed into 4.1 by my processor. This also gives me audyssey room calibration capacity to help acoustics. Be aware if you do this you want to have a second monitor plugged into the AVR because windows will think the AVR is a monitor regardless.
I knew I would have to spell this out to people, cos these days you can't assume that they're gonna think a little.
It simulates that, from behind you, things sound a little quieter. As to you not hearing things at all, I suggest that you check your audio levels and any EQ/surround settings you may have. If you still can't hear them when they're behind you, I suggest a trip to your local audiologist. On my pc, I can still hear them fine, but it does get noticeably lower in volume as you spin around.
And did I just cover everything in you entire long-winded novella of a post with a single sentence? Perhaps being a pompous windbag isn't working as well for you as previously thought.
This actually works, and if you're here for an actual solution, I'm sorry you had to wade through the reddit-tier sniping about human hearing above good lord....
OP did say "super low"
Edit. Oh just realised this is a necro 🤣
Yeah it happens to me too.
I've got a 5.1 setup and it's a fairly common issue in games with multiple different sound sources that simulate 3D sound. The most workaround that works for me is limiting it to 2.1 in those games (usually through PC settings). This game supports setting it directly through Audio menu.
You'd come out looking smarter by not responding at all, or admitting to a fault.
OP clearly said:
And you replied with
You either didn't read, or didn't care enough to respond regarding the actual issue. You can't really back-paddle from saying "can't hear at all" is "how irl hearing works" to "from behind you things sound A LITTLE quieter" while acting all high and mighty as if everyone else misunderstood.
In game?
