Soloing the Hive Tyrant as Heavy
Seems to me that the heavy is the worst class to fight this class in a solo operation on account of only having the buttstock bash as your melee, and not having enough ammo to take on both forms. What sort of weapons would be recommended if not Multi-Melta/Plasma Pistol?

There's always an ammo box in the arena, and the heavy bolter can regen you out of spicy situations.

I don't believe there is a significant difference with the Heavies melee.

I feel like you're meant to fight this thing as non-Heavy non-Sniper classes, since you don't have enough ammo for sustained ranged combat, so you'll have to go in sword-first.

As ganjou wrote, there is an ammo box.

The heavy stomp is actually pretty strong, the only big downside in my opinion is the clunkyness if your are in heavy stance.
You need to get out of it manually before you can dodge but you can parry, wich is really confusing.

In terms of ammo, you should with a correct build ofc. almost never run out of it. And even on lethal there is always an ammocrate at the Hive Tyrant encounter, always.

I play as heavy most, and with machine gun you basically have infinite ammo even on lethal when facing huge hordes i rarely go low on ammo, and i spray machine gun everywhere like crazy man xD, regenerating hp is easy too since you can spray and kill everything to get it back, as for melee i limit myself to countering and sometimes using one hit attack to trigger sidearm finisher for armour regen.

Honestly i don't like plasma much it does a lot of single target dmg on hive tyrant, but machine gun is better since it can clear small enemies fast in that fight and dmg isn't bad on boss with it anyways. As for sidearm i use regular pistol it's more accurate for me.

P.S i never understood why people focus on melta/plasma so much i can easily do 30k in op with machine gun and it's lot more satisfying to play for me. Melta is boooring :P

naa assault takes the cake for worst class against the hive tyrant.

heavy is amazing against hive tyrant, you just need teammates that have braincells

in fact Heavy is one of THE best classes to lower hive tyrants hp with the heavy Bolter, nothing even does as much dps as the heavy bolter 10 dmg

There should always be a big ammo box in the arena. I would also go in with both Plasmaweapons.

There is an ammo box in the area (it just changes between 2 locations in different runs) so you shouldn't be running out of ammo.

Unless you got the perk that restores armor even on non lethal gun strikes.

OP asked about solo, so bots.
Therefore, no brain cells in team mates.

The only difference is if you were forced through one of the melee damage nodes on your perk tree. Then instead of needing like 20 swings it will only take 19.9 swings to vulnerable a majoris.

Dunno, the big gun he carry might give a hint that he does more damage with range... Well, maybe except the fact, that melter is a non boss weapon as the patchnote stated.
