4K texture pack is too much VRAM usage, without it's too low
With the 4K texture pack, it uses ~21GB of VRAM at 4K apparently
Without it (high preset), it's around 8-10GB of VRAM

Considering most high-end GPU have 16GB VRAM, it would be great to have a middleground for it

With high preset, nearly half of my VRAM is unused
With ultra preset, I get stutter on 16GB VRAM GPU (RTX 4080)

Yep. 1440p, 4080S, no 4K texture pack due to stuttering.

My graphics card has 12GB of VRAM yet can use the 4k textures just fine.

Welcome to 4k dude. I'm a 1440p man myself.

The 4k textures look amazing at 1440p, you do not need a 4k monitor to get an improvement from that download.

Havnt had and issue yet with my full AMD build with a sapphire nitro 7900 xtx with the 4k texture pack, looks absolutely beautiful.

A fellow sapphire nitro user, how nice. mine is just a 6750 xt though.

If I were Teh Emprah I'd command Jensen to make me a quad way SLI 5090 and Lisa to make me a 9950X3D2X with 3D cache on both CCDs :D

2024 and gamers still dont know what memory management actually is and how its working, handing out tips what the devs should do :steamfacepalm:.

4K texture pack, 1440p, maxed out settings, 4080S. No stuttering, it runs even smoother.

It is almost absurd how sharp it is, you can almost taste the flesh, cloth and metal textures.

You technically can, but it cause stutter when you move around the map

I used well known tools like PresentMon and SpecialK to get frametime graphs and VRAM usage.

The VRAM gets to +99% usage on 16GB gpu, and there are stutters visible in these framegraphs.
And not tiny spikes that can happen occasionally, these are huge.

I am not saying it stutters by eye (even if it's clearly visible) but by using tools that report measurable data.

You can set textures to high with 4K pack installed. They will be downsaceled from 4k version so they will look a litter better but take less that 20G of vram.

I have an RX 7900Xt, also no issues. The game allocates the full 20 GB VRAM, but uses effectively "only" 18 GB of it with the 4K textures (FSR quality, 4K output).

The 'middle ground' is voting with your wallet and holding Nvidia accountable for their greedy VRAM configurations (at eye watering prices mind you).

i would love a VRAM usage bar when changing the settings

Pointless because the reserved and actually allocated vram is not the same, especially on low level api where the gpu takes control.

The threadcreator is rambling about frametimes not even realising that if you dont play on ultra the game doesnt even use the 4K textures in the first place.
If there are any stutters its mostly there system, there are gamers playing with 12GB and the 4K texture pack just fine where the 1% lows stay the same, how would that be possible ?

Obviously there is always room for improvement, but the latency spikes wich he thinks is texture streaming or going out of vram are actually the servers,
anti-cheat and the consoles hosting matches if you use crossplay.

Its not the 4K Textures using nearly all available vram, wich they always should !
