Do they have a scaling factor for higher difficulties, or do they just remain as a shadow of the player forever?

It feels like it'd be great to be able to select my team composition and equip any gear that I've unlocked and purchased, along with perks, then have those saved as a profile for the bots when I'm in solo mode. It's not going to make the bots any smarter, but at least they'd hit harder and would look the way we might like.

i think the AI marines should just have their stats modified based on what diffculty you're playing on, in addition to allowing us to choose which ones we bring into the mission.

They probably scale, but will never leave your shadow. Boss damage, killing of special enemies and overall killing between 90-95% of enemies will be solely on you

I suggest this mod if you play only solo. Will improve your live a lot

Funny how allied AI design was better decades ago, I always viewed lobotomised allied AI as flawed design philosophy. I also thoroughly enjoy when they make it so the player is prioritised as a target above everything else but of course that what makes you the star of the show doesn't it?

The only type of AI bot "scaling" I've seen, if you can even call it that, is on the sniper.

If you're playing on minimal, average, or (most of the time) on Substantial, the AI sniper will use a Las Fusil rifle.

But I've never seen an AI sniper use a Las Fusil on Ruthless or Lethal difficulty; they always use the bolt sniper rifle.

They do scale damage output with difficulty, but they still not getting any perks or loadouts.

So they are stayng the same level of "occasionally not completely useless and good for revives".

Their weapons scale until lethal, they still suck, though. The heavy and sniper are ok.

They will move right in front of you when you aim at something, they will move back to you when you are trying to create some spacing, like when you play the sniper for example, bringing the enemies back on you, lol.

Despite what they say to raise millions of dollars in funding, AIs are not close to take over the world I can tell you that :P
