is the bolt sniper viable?
I've been trying out the sniper after using snipers in the campaign and honestly I don't know what to choose anymore. The carbine and stalker are cool in their own ways but I want to be a sniper with, well...a sniper.

Las Fusil seems to do the most damage per shot (and free ammo) but I vastly prefer the instant firing of the bolt sniper so I've been using that...but it takes me like 3-4 shots to the head on ruthless to kill a majoris, which seems horribly inefficient. (artificer/purple tier)

So does the bolt sniper become a viable option to use when leveled up to relic? Can I make the bolt sniper work in higher difficulties or am I griefing my team?

its kind of lackluster tell relic its okay at relic the las fusil is just better due to the ammo perk the class has and it being able to shot through enemies better making it more versatile wish they would make the the bolt sniper the strong single target weapon it want to be tbh

It's viable at all difficulties, but it's not as easy to use as the las fusil or stalker bolter. You'll have to learn to pick your fights and targets a little more keenly since you won't be able to spam las shots into crowds to clear them, and you won't have the comfy unscoped handling, low recoil and large regenerating ammo pool on the stalker.

Being able to instantly interrupt reinforcement calls with a single shot at any range is a great feature though. Sometimes the stagger it does on headshots can come in handy if you're being cheeky with it in melee as well. Otherwise, it's the same story as any other sniper weapon: abuse the cloak mechanics as much as you can to keep yourself safe and your damage through the roof.

bolt sniper does most damage when you click heads and if you want 1-2 headshots you need to combo with the +damage range attacks after breaking invi and get all the headshot damage weapon perks. Additionally, most people don't understand that the Sniper Class is a support class that provides support fire WHEN NEEDED. Examples of this are: When a marine is getting swarmed and needs executes, when extremis/terminus enemies are around its your moment to shine and to go ham. Its not your job as sniper to be constantly dealing with Majoris ESPECIALLY on Ruthless and Lethal difficulty. That's why melee sniper combined with a bolt sniper rifle or las fusil is the meta and that's why the most useful perk of the sniper is the regen ability charge on headshot perk. use pistol or in some cases totally discard long range support and use the carbine weapons for more headshots on minoris

lol yes there have been many times where I used the bolt sniper to quickscope a caller, that's part of why I'm so reluctant to bench it lmao

seems like I have yet to get a feel for the sniper's combat flow. Thank you, brother.

No, don't bother. Nevermind the walls of text telling you otherwise. The answer is no. It sucks. Use the Stalker Bolter.

Most weapons are viable. Anyone who says otherwise is a bad.

No
After getting relic one which gives acces to ammo refund perk , the weapon becomes playable. Not good but usable. I recently did some solo runs on rutless with it and you surerly can do it but headshoot damage is anemic, landing shoots annoying, engagements prolonged and game overall unfun.
Bringing it to lethal is borderline griefing your team.

Stalker bolt rifle is the best.

The bolt sniper is a great weapon, it was my preferred choice in lethal even. As for how to use it, that is personal preference. How i used it was, high ammo version until i got the ammo refund perk on it, then i switched to the high rate of fire version.

As for class perks, I took the basics of lower recoil with bolt sniper, damage while standing still, and the perk that lets me stay cloaked 2 seconds after firing my gun, and first shot from cloak deals extra damage.

Stalker is way better, more shots and no ammo issue.

It work.
But it have a really poor ammo economy unless you abuse it's ammo refill gimmick to the fullest, and even then it's still a pretty mid choice.

Viable? Yes. But you have to go in with the expectations that it's just a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ la fusil in every way.

If I'm put my opinon on 3 sniper...

Laz - Powerhouse, never go wrong with this. Need one perk on your class to make it more versatile (kill more than 1 = refund ammo) Result in a bit of hoard clear which good for some time saving like Inferno, line up the shot on wave - etc. Huge downside is beam hit box is as wonky as this game combat can be. If the edge of the beam touch any terrain, it's blocked even it seem impossible to.

Bolt Sniper - poor metal bolter style. A middle ground where is no need. Pack quite power, but not enough to make standout. I think it suit more for dodge build where you keep dodge to trigger camo and swiftly land a headshot after. Otherwise, Laz do better. I also feel like it have less accuracy/more spread than Laz almost pin-point accuracy...

Stalker - DPS style. You need to land a couple more headshot, but you also have more ammo to do so. I don't know, Tactical seem hold this gun better for his scan. Can't deny how fast this thing nip Terminus / boss HP through. You don't need camo to get the best shot out of it.
