Or ever read about the Celestial Lions?
Don't know why people keep bringing up Salamanders when discussing this. They are NOT "black" as in some dark brown African ethnicity exclusive Chapter. They literally just have jet-black skin due to their gene-seed. Many clearly have Caucasian features.

Did you just happen to forget that the Salamanders are Africans?
Not all of them, but the vast majority of them, along with Vulkan.
And the Salamanders culture is based on African cultures.
Which, you'd be able to easily recognize if you knew any.
Not to mention Black Library audio dramas usually have the Salamanders speaking with different African accents.
I really wish I knew where this dumb idea of "Space Marine are ONLY WHITE" came from.
It's so pervasive and widespread, sheesh.
Cloning and Recruitment: Space Marines are not clones, but rather recruited from primitive worlds and undergo extensive surgery and implantation of special organs to become Astartes. This process does not guarantee a specific skin tone.
Melanchromic Organ
Phase 13: This implant controls the amount of melanin in a Marine's skin. Exposure to high levels of sunlight will result in the Marine's skin darkening to compensate. It also protects the Marine from other forms of radiation

Lore and Artwork: Black Space Marines appear in various Warhammer 40k lore, including artwork, novels, and background materials. They are depicted as having dark skin tones, with some examples including:
Salamanders: Initially had a majority black force, but their home planet’s radiation turned them charcoal black with red eyes.
Word Bearers: Intended to have Arabic skin tone, as they were recruited from their home planet with limited racial diversity.
Thousand Sons: Described as having darker skin, being “space Egyptians”.
And a picture from one of the books just to help;

Geneseed and Mutation: Space Marine geneseed can influence skin tone, with some examples:
Salamanders: Pitch black due to their home planet’s radiation.
Death Spectres: Albino white due to a mutation.
Raven Guard: Pale white.
Space Sharks: Grey.
Primaris Space Marines: The Black Consuls Chapter, a Loyalist Space Marine Chapter, has Primaris Space Marines with dark skin tones.
To establish - Space Marines, can be any damn colour skin - and it REALLY doesn't matter if they are black, white, green, blue or bloody baby 80s pink.... who cares? What matters is killing the Xeno's and exterminating the heretics. nuff said.
Their culture is African culture.
It used to be a stereotype in early modern Europe, prior to the Industrial revolution, that Africans were great at metal working. In fact the oldest ironsmithing in the world, was most likely done in Nigeria. So there's that aspect of the Salamanders taken from African culture. I even read somewhere that Africans living in Iberia were seen as descendants of the Greek God Vulcan, because they were black from working in the forges all day, and were the best at making weapons and other things.
They practice Animism, which is an African form of spirituality.
Probably the most African thing about the Salamanders, because it's the majority of what they do as a culture. Look closely at the hides and the trinkets they wear, you'll notice, they look African, lol.
Many of them have African names, not all, but very many..
You probably don't know enough about African culture to be able to make those connections, but that's fine. They black, deal with it.
I fail to see your point
Do not dignify such retrograde and repulsive thoughts with an argument.
This thread is a joke. XD
- Black Space Marines have appeared in other 40K video games.
- Black Space Marines have appeared in 40K novel covers.
- Black Space Marines have appeared in 40K comics.
- Black Space Marines have appeared in officially painted models from Games Workshop.
I'm sorry OP, but you're misguided assertions is completely incorrect. :P
Because the lore is based around the strong unique radiation from nocturne that interacts with the salamander gene seed and causes their skin to turn charcoal black as well as the eyes to emit a red glow.
Like how Ultramarines are based on Greco/Roman cultures.
Salamanders are based on Nilotic/Saharan/Sahel cultures.
Vulkan very closely resembles the Yoruba god "Ogun", the god of warrior/blacksmiths.
And of course, the Greek god, Vulcan.
I honestly see Salamanders as a mix of African/Greek cultures.
Since they show affinity towards both.
As I said before though, most Europeans have very little knowledge of African cultures, so it's only normal that someone would say, "There's nothing African about them!", lol.
Not sure if I wrote it in this thread, but Salamanders practice the African variety of Animism.
There are certainly plenty of Africans in the Salamanders, you just have to pay attention.
By your twisted logic Salamanders = black just cause of cultural references. Then african ultramarine is caucasian.
Try again.
In any case why does it matter? Actually, we know why it matters...
They're all plastic toys
*sigh*
