Sad no preload
This makes no sense why this wouldn't be an option. My Internet isn't the fastest so 80GB would take around 4-5 hours. Granted it's light years better than what I grew up with and my area has no access to any kind of high speed internet. I enjoy cabin life in the woods, but sure is nice to preload.

Yeah, I'm a bit bummed about it too. I imagine it's due to preorder EA, and Steam doesn't have the ability to differentiate between EA and regular pre-order if the game is downloaded

I *think* the early access is why they can't do a pre-load, can't find where I read that though atm.

That's not true though, last time Starfield had 5-day advance access too, and yet Steam users can preload the game.

Really? Then that's weird as ♥♥♥♥. I ain't got no potential explanation then

PS5 and Xbox are suddenly talking about getting preloads out of nowhere, so maybe Valve/Steam might reconsider.

As someone who has abysmal download speeds, it ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sucks lol. When it comes to stuff like this I'll usually download things over night.

10-15 minutes? Sure lol. Even on a 100mbps internet connection (1mb = 8mbps), assuming you actually get that full speed, 80gb would take you 106 minutes to download.

200mbps connection it would take you 53 minutes.

300mbps connection? 26.5 minutes

So unless you're on some 500mbps business line, I think you're talking crap, dear chap! :ruthie:

Actually, 1 or 2 Gigabit internet speed is getting pretty common for home users these days.

downloaded at like 5mb/s for many years, it certainly teaches you to appreciate high speeds

I went through a period where my steam downloads were at like 400-800 kb/s lol. That was a fun time.

Yeah, no.
"The average internet speed in the U.S. was 219 Mbps download and 24 Mbps upload as of November 2023, according to Speedtest.net"
And if yopu consider the rest of the world the average goes way, way down.

4-5 hours? I'm looking at probably 12 hours. Yep, cable company doesn't want to come down my road, so I'm stuck with crappy DSL.
