I just don't agree.
The environments are fantastic. The melee looks chunky and in-depth enough (certainly about as deep as Darktide). The bots seem sufficiently capable. Voice acting is decent (for the setting).
Customization looks stellar. Half a dozen classes to choose from. Co-op pve ties into the campaign is a nice touch.
I really can't see calling this "generic." Can you actually name any games this looks similar to? Aside from Darktide and Vermintide (both Warhammer titles), how many other melee-shooter hybrid games put this many enemies on screen at once?
WWZ had a lot of enemies on screen and that game got old really fast and struggled. I think this will have a similar trajectory. Both games have very common, overused combat styles so they don't stand out. A little flash but not really any substance.
Combine that with a surprisingly short campaign and no loot and I don't see this being popular for long if at all. Could be I'm wrong but I wouldn't buy it ahead of time.
Aside from the numbers of enemies on screen, what exactly does SM2 have in common with WWZ in terms of gameplay?
10-15 hours is a perfectly acceptable campaign length for this genre. This is not being billed as a "forever game" like Suicide Squad or Starfield. If SM2 as any replayability comes from its co-op Operations mode, not the campaign.
Hint: There are actually games that SM2 is very similar to. To help your argument, try comparing it to one of those.
Bog standard combat that couldn't stand the test of time, forgettable levels and uninteresting progression systems. Simply put, didn't end up being all that much fun to actually play. They're pretty though.
You can tell they reused a lot mechanically from WWZ. That's how it looks to me, guess we'll see.
No, I can't tell that they reused a lot mechanically from WWZ, because WWZ was a shooter with virtually no melee element. Though I guess if "shoot guns" makes these two games identical, sure.
And personally I think the environments we've seen in the previews for SM2 look phenomenal. I don't really see how they could have captured the 40k vibe much better.
As to progression, from what we've seen in the previews I don't really see what more they could do with it. So far, it's at least better than what we had in Darktide. Just from the previews we've seen SM2 has more to unlock, both in terms of 'real' progression (weapons, perks, etc) and earned cosmetics, than Darktide has.
What do you find lacking in the progression?
