Lack of Heretic Astartes Armour Customization
This is probably the first piece of disappointing news I have heard and seen with Space marine 2.
And thats how I would describe myself. I am not mad, just disappointed by this.

This is the first time I have seen Space Marine 2 take a step back from what Space Marine offered.
Half of what you can play as in Eternal War is now lacking the in-depth customization that the other half has.
This can cause sever issues for player retention.
What if I find that every match I have been joining has me as Heretic Astartes, when I just got new armour unlocks for my Space Marine? Now I am getting uspet, because I cant see it in Eternal War.
What if I find that the large helmets of Thousand Sons is distracting? I cannot change the helmet to remove it.

This is something that can be easily fixed, and should not have been an issue to begin with.
There is no excuse to not have this already be a thing.

As well, because I know "money money money", this would open the pathway for future season passes to allow the change, since everything is about season passes now...

So lets have our voices heard! Lets let them know we want to have proper customization!

I say let the devs know that we want chaos customization, and hope it gets added post launch.

For starters i want each chaos legion to be playable for each class.

Would they be better off not having playable Chaos Space Marines, and instead, just have it be Space Marines vs Space Marines?

That would have looked dumb. The better option would have been for us to always be playing Loyalist Marines but the opposing team always appears to be Chaos from our point of view. My guess is they didn't do that because now they do intend to sell Chaos skins at some point.

There is a whole tab in menu for Chaos customization.
Yes. And as showcased in this, its only for skins and emblems.
Not actual armour changing.
Which is the issue.
For instance, if I dont like the Night Lords helmet on the Raptor, from what is stated, I cant change that.
Where is it stated that you can't customize the armor components?
In PVP the different character classes need to be instantly recognizable. If you were able to customize armor, it would be impossible to determine which class you are facing, in order to adapt your strategy. This is why TF2 was so popular, and every other PVP shooter copied it.

Honestly this is hardly an excuse imo. Each of the classes has obvious visual signifiers that can separate them at a glance, which are obvious enough that the Chaos Legion armor decorations really only serve as a reinforcement.

Shield? Bulwark. Cowl over the helmet? Heavy. Jetpack? Assault. Light armor? Vanguard. Light armor and cape? Sniper. Basic look? Tactical.

agreed, the only real reason I can think of is differentiating factions rather than classes but.. space marine 1 was already able to do that even when armor designs were similar at a distance, that's a matter for the ui more than the actual armor design

there's only so much visual distinction you really need when "this is an enemy, it is trying to shoot you" is a very straightforward concept, so what we get instead just feels like an attempt to have iconic chaos space marine legions represented without needing to give individual options for them across multiple classes

It definitely feels lazy, for sure. Not being in the dev room myself I hesitate to just straight-up call it such, but I do know that a World Eater Assault or Bulwark marine would have been badass asf, and I'm not a big fan of the Death Guard personally.

It states it in one of the community posts they have done, touching on customization.

After playing the new game extensively I'm severely disappointed in both the PvP setups and lack of customization on both SM and CSM, we get it the ultra smurfs are the poster child faction in general let a lot the current game but come on now everything is themed around them. Sure we have more colors but everyone looks like a slightly gaudier version of the Mark X (varies on the class of course). I truly miss the old system for customization and the old game in its entirety...

To be fair, everything is themed around them right now because we are in Season 1, which is the Ultramarines time to shine.
Season 2 will be Dark Angels, and so on.

Honestly there is a bunch lacking in customisation even in PvE, I don’t like how the armour is solely cosmetic. Makes everyone wear “deathwatch” things.
Would be very cool if we could have a “sorting hat” kind of deal, where you get a Chapter dealt to you based on whatever, like kills, or answer questions, etc etc.

Why would you want that? Not being allowed to pick the chapter you want would suck.
I think mainly they will include more customization for things like this in the future. At least I hope they do.

They especially need to fix the color customization issues that they have at the current moment for the Chaos Marines. Some body parts don't actually change the part they are meant to change. The new upper and lower leg customization feature introduced in the last update doesn't work for the chaos marines.

Also, make it to where the chaos marine is not associated with the specific class. Have the world eater armor available for all classes so you can customize them out.

Again a lot of this can be fixed and will be fixed hopefully in the future. You can post about this topic on their site focus entertainment and that may draw some good attention. Especially since that site is where they listen to the fans.
