It was different, back in the earlier console generations, if you wanted a physical copy, to pick up in a store, on the release. But back then, games usually worked as they should, with no need for multiple patches, as they had to make a finished product, before they printed the carts/discs.
i agree with It was different, back in the earlier console generations.
Come on.
for example
You go to the store to buy a Ribeye Steak (Tofu if your Vegan) and they haven't received the shipment yet.
They said if you gimme money now, they'll throw in potatoes (Carrots if you're Vegan) along with the steak or you can just come get just the steak on this date that we will be receiving the shipment.
if you already love steak and going to get it anyways, then the logical conclusion would be to get the steak with free potatos.
if you have no clue what you are doing ... then the logical conclusion is to be cautious and get the steak when it is available on the shelf.
up to you
There are no real pros or cons except for your own priorities.
I preordered because I love the IP and the franchise. If I’m disappointed with the end product - I can live with that.
I can't tell you how many times over the years I have pre-ordered a game for the pre-order bonus. I CAN tell you how many of those games I still play this many years later. ZERO. A handful of those games were $60 and I stopped playing them within one month after release because of how bad they were. If I had waited even 48 hours for the Steam reviews I would have saved myself hundreds of dollars over the years. Pre-ordering made sense when video-games were physical media that stores would run out of. The only REAL pro to pre-ordering died in 2010 with the rising popularity of Steam as a digital distributer.
Tl;dr - Don't pre-order. If you do years from now you'll realize how dumb you used to be.
i pre ordered elden ring and i'm still playing it.
Elden Ring is something different than Warhammer
Other than that, everything else you said makes and I agree. I just don't think it's a scummy practice, irs just a dumb practice.
