Can´t we have something else, like a radical Inquisitor who tried to redirect the Hivefleet like Kryptmann but failed miserably or some Eldar shenanigans?
I think it's because Chaos is just the most recognizable enemy. People look at them and automatically think "oh hey, evil version of the guys I'm playing as"
But I agree, it'd be fun to see some Eldar stuff. Like having them direct the hive Fleet towards the planet as to complete some prophecy, or save some other important planet
Wasn't that the plot for DoW2?
I haven't played it yet but most likely
I think another fun route could be the Tau trying to help, and then just get mercilessly slaughtered by both bug and imperium
They provoked and assisted the Ork Waagh in the Aurelian Subsector to slow down the incoming Nids fleet, so they can steer their Craftworld away from them.
as much as many of us xenos fans would like it to be otherwise, 40k revolves around the imperium (mostly space marines) and chaos as far as most of the writers are concerned (exceptions include phil kelly... we... don't want things to be decided by phil kelly because then it would be "all tau all the time")
that means chaos is going to show up more often than not when a clear antagonist is needed, and by "needed" I mean "when the active antagonist can't convey enough personal drama for general audiences"
combine that with the fact that titus' existing story makes his warp resistance 1 of the threads they can hold onto that hasn't been cut by the time between games (both in and out of universe) and it quickly becomes the case that chaos is very likely to always hold top billing for his enemies in videogames
honestly? not gonna complain cause in this case tzeentch and thousand sons finally get some spotlight from the khorne and nurgle obsession most games have, heck it's outright insulting they didn't before, dawn of war repeatedly had psykers becoming daemon princes of khorne, the guy who hates psykers rather than them putting in the effort to switch away from khorne and nurgle
Oh right, I was remembering the trailer. The context in that was a different implication. It's been a long time since I last played DoW2.
funny thing is chaos didn't even show up in 2 until the 1st expansion
would require dropping all the existing characters and jumping way back in the timeline, in which case it would stop being "space marine 2", and as interesting as it would be to see orkz in the middle of slowly evolving into krork again I don't think it would be done well, least of all because for any of it to make sense you'd need a metric ton of lore context
A giant Ork invasion against the Imperium lead by a Krork (basically smart super Orks) or something very close to it.
Meanwhile stupid Highlords of Terra are backstabbing one another.
doesn't matter, a space marine game taking place during the great crusade would sell exponentially better, in fact that's how all space marine games should be, Screw playing as ultramarine i wanna play as the blood angels defending their home world from the tyranids, that would be so sick as the space marines basically clutched a victory.
Between Great Crusade and Devastation of Baal are nearly 11k years fyi.
"Wait, orks have diplomats? I thought they were just war all the time"
