Old Space Marine designations (also used in the game Space Marine 1)
- Tactical
- Assault
- Devastator
Pretty simple. These make intuitive sense and It's pretty easy to guess what each class could possibly be based on those names.
Now let's look at at GW's new naming convention for Primaris Marines: (it should be obvious why they're NOT using these names in the new game)
- Intercessor
- Assault Intercessor <-- at least I can figure this one out
- Incursor
- Infiltrator
- Reiver
- Bladeguard <-- this one aint bad.
- Eliminator
- Eradicator
- Desolation Marine
- Aggressor
Like, as a new player that doesn't know the lore, would I want to play an 'Eliminator' or an 'Eradicator?' No wonder this games called them 'Sniper' and 'Heavy.' I hope in 11th edition GW fixes this mess. O_O
Edit: Hmm. . . but if I could add a class to this game. . . maybe 'Inceptors' or 'Supressors' would be fun! : D Does anyone even know what those are? -_-
I kinda miss the simple days of Tactical, Assault, Devastator. Now when I try to purchase marine models from Gamesworksop I never know what I'm supposed to type in the search field. o_O
To answer the OP's original question, I'm really hoping for the Apothecary class one day! XD
And I'm also kinda hopping Sisters of Battle get added at some point, but I'm really skeptical that'll ever happen. o_o
You forgot Heavy Intercessors and Jump Pack Intercessors!
Those are pretty self explanatory at least, but so boring.
The old ones had a nice simple charm, but Eliminator at least is pretty cool. And god I'd kill for Suppressors. I love the big autocannons
honestly my real issue with the new primaris designations is they get way too granular to the point that games workshop started pulling older models off their store page with the excuse of "it's getting overcrowded"... aye, it's overcrowded because you've got 3 different entries of the same unit with a different weapon loadout and 1 word added to the name
that aside, my hope is for librarian/sorcerer but I doubt it since that would require them making and balancing enough psyker powers to be distinct from the other "classes" while not showing them all up and sadly the best I expect most games to do is toss in smite or doombolt and maybe remember force staves exist but not any of the other force weapons in the lore
It'd be real fun to see Centurion suits make a comeback. Have it operate kinda like the silverbacks in Gears of War 3
A specific Co-op/Operations mission where one player plays as a Dreadnought would be awesome. Have the marines support the dreadnought and the dreadnought support the marines in certain situations would be amazing.
I would like to see terminator armor as an armor and not a class. Perhaps as a mission modifier allowing a terminator loadout so its not used every mission?
But I'd love to see a Tech Marine.
I agree
Considering we are fighting Tyranids, and the trailer has anything from Hive Tyrants to Zoanthropes (Zoanthropes BTW are AT LEAST Zeta if not substantially more (Gamma and above by default most likely). On table-top they can smite twice per turn etc.) The logic that librarians are 'over-powered' in comparison to super-charged psychic aliens floating around the map is quite frankly, retarded. There is absolutely room to incorporate them as a playable class into the game. Again, not every Librarian needs to be Tigurius's level.
'A breakdown GW made in the past of the Ultramarines Chapter showed them as having a Chief Librarian, 4 Epistolaries, 7 Codiciers, 12 Lexicanums, and 4 Acolytum'
so that's 28 'Librarians' for the entire Ultramarines chapter
