Gears of War was inspired by the Warhammer 40,000 world. And then the gameplay in Space Marine 1 was was very much inspired by the gameplay in Gears of War.
Except I don't think there's any "cover mechanic" in this game.
You don't need it, a Space Marine is effectively a walking tank. XD
Edit: Ya beat me to it Eidrog! lol
oh damn now im even more hyped, im gonna sink my teeth in this game's lore. I always wanted to get into the lore but I never really had that push since its so vast. Thanks for letting a noobie know!!
I thought: I'll share this youtube link. . . but no. . . maybe this one? . . . no. . . hmmm. . .
Well, one fun way to jump right in is playing Space Marine 1. It's on sale right now during Games Workshop's 'SKULLS' event. Even though it's over 10 years old, it still holds up. And you'll get to learn about the origin of the main character Captain Titus!

The Warhammer 40k setting is a wonderful and richly devloped universe. It takes the best parts of Sci-Fi and Fantasy and uniquely twists them together in a gothic, grimdark, and oftentimes humourous and satirical way. I've been a big fan for many years! = )
Apparently I had the game already lol I think it must have been part of a humble bundle but I probably confused it for one of the top down total war type games, I am definitely going to give it a play through in time for the september release!! The more I learn about it the more im excited for it, it even has cross play from what I read. Gonna be watching lore videos for whats in the games and then branch out more after I am confident about it

As far as capturing the atmosphere of Warhammer 40k, I dare say no game does a better job than Darktide, a 4 player co-op game similar to Left 4 Dead.

You see the Imperium through the eyes of regular, downtrodden humans (not glorious Space Marines), so it's a much dirtier, grittier look at the Imperium of Mankind. The grind for leveling and finding decent gear is a bit bothersome - but if you can look past that - the actual combat is some of the most fun I've had in a 40k game, and the dialog between the characters is some of the best 40k writing I've heard in a game (really endears you to Ogryn!). The vibe is great. Unfortauntely, the story itself is. . . is well. . . unfinished? I wonder if that game will ever get a proper ending.
oh yeah def gonna give it a go as well since i got gamepass and it has it, cant believe how much of a clutch that is.
In fact unless my oldmanbrain is failing me I think they even stated as such during development.
"Because Sphess Mahreens don't need cover" and such. Need to finish my hard playthrough.
Also for the true image of 40K and the Imperium check out the vidya Warhammer 40k: Dawn of Awesome.
The most trust Sphess Mahreen experience that ever Sphess Mahreened!
I hope this will scratch my Space Marine itch, not any of the others. And I have much time in all of them.
GAH! How could I forget!?
Yep, this is the best deep-dive into 40K. :P
