they could instead... idk actually offer something of value?
stop making exucuses for scummy business practices from multimillion dollar corpos
so again, if you dont want it dont get it. vote with your wallet. for me ill prob get gold, may even look into getting ultra
paying an extra 30-40 dollars is a small price to pay if it gets you 10 000s of dollars in extra streaming revenue
if you buy the early access you can download it early. if you got a slow net it will take longer to download then people with fast net
as an aussie that used to have reallllllllllllly slow net it would somtimes take me days to download games. so having a 3 day buffer to download a game was a very helpful thing
on the flip side its good for us. we can just wait and see the reviews from the people that got the early access to see if the games good or not
or you know, play the game for a bit. if you dont like it refund it
I fail to see how advanced access is 'heinous'. Allowing other players who are willing to spend extra money to gain advanced access has virtually zero effect on other "responsible" players who didn't spend that extra cash. Outside of the risk/possibility of spoilers, I do not see a conflict. If you don't like it, don't spend the extra money. I could see how advanced access could be very frustrating in a PvP focused game with progression, but we're talking about a primarily Solo or Co-op campaign experience with a PvP side-note.
Here's reality: Capitalism is a democratic system by which you vote with every dollar spent. There's very clearly a demand for 'advanced access', and it would be stupid not to supply that demand and make more money. Greedy? I suppose. If you can make more money by providing a service or product early to those who are willing to pay more, why wouldn't you? I worked for a company that provided powder coating services to customers. Every project and work item would take a relatively standard amount of time, but we were willing to change priorities or work a bit later if a customer was willing to pay an expedite fee to get their product earlier. Does this make the company I worked for greedy? Or is it just another way to make a bit more money? I'm aware I'm comparing apples and oranges, but I'm confident you can still understand my point even if you disagree.
How does this negatively effect "responsible people"? You make a conscious decision to buy things. Its very clear you're not going to buy this one. Seems like you avoided conflict altogether by not buying it. And yet, you still felt the need to complain. Also, this isn't "new" at all. Having a more expensive "collector's edition" has been a thing for well over a decade. I'd be willing to guess you didn't buy into those either. So what's the difference now? 4 days instead of some cool looking CD case or physical game-related memorabilia? "I didn't get to play this single-player campaign game at the same time as the players who spent $20 more than me." Hey, good for you! You saved $20, take that and run with it.
Don't like Streamers having advanced access to the game? Don't watch them. Seems pretty simple. But then again, odds are, just based on the way the statement was written, you probably didn't watch streamers anyways. So, why does it matter to you that they have advanced access?
I think the real problem for you, the reader who is bothered by 'advanced access', is that someone, somewhere is making money. That's the major conclusion I've come to anyways. I'd love to be provided with an additional reason, and then deconstruct it. This has been a very interesting debate among my friend group and I would love to get even more perspective.
I spent the money, by the way. In case you were wondering. I actually bought the most expensive package for the game. Because its funny. I'm very excited to play this game 4 days before its slated release date. Actually, it works out quite well with my travel plans in early September.
