Primaris Marines are not a 'new way' of making Astartes, it is an extension of what the God Emperor crafted and is still entirely reliant on the Primarch's gene seed. It is the same level of organ implantation at the same points, now just with three more. In universe it is a process that took Cawl 10,000 years of tinkering to achieve.
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ they banned you for speaking the truth! someone report to the inquisition asap, the ordo hereticus must be informed !
Actually, yeah I agree with this.
Changes with the lore should be done with respect for the lore. For some folks this would definitively mean female astartes are IMPOSSIBLE. (Albeit, using that same logic, Primaris Marines would have also be impossible in the lore , and yet, we have Primaris Marines. . . and we have two recently revived Loyalist Primarchs to boot, another thing that most 40k fans would have argued to be nigh-impossible years ago, as it had never been done before.)
If there ever are female astartes, addressing how on earth they came to exist would be much better than stating "They have always existed!" I mean, people weren't big fans of Primaris Marines when they were first announced, but at least we had the benefit of some story telling to explain how they came to exist.
Also. . . I'm building-up 40k nerd rage by reading the lore inaccuracies in these comments. X ) No, geneseed would not transform female aspirants into men (unless someone can find a source for this - but I really doubt one exists). Yes, geneseed does make aspirants more like the primarch that the geneseed came from -- thus aspirants get more muscular, and become receptive to all the brand new organs that are going to be transplanted into them -- But nowhere have I read "geneseed physically changes aspirants into a dude." That's crazy talk.
Given how slowly GW moves, I don't think we're going to see female astartes anytime soon. Especially given the reaction to female custodes. In some ways this is too bad, for the reasons I've already mentioned above. But it makes sense, 40k is how GW makes money so I don't think they want to 'rock the boat' too much.
Interestingly enough, in an Interview Alan Merrett, the former Games Workshop head of IP who spent 36 years with the company said about female space marines:
- - -
"The reason there aren't female Space Marines has nothing to do with the lore, or background or character of Marines. It's to do with simple logistics of making miniatures and selling miniatures. Early Citadel ranges had female versions of most character types - in fact when we produced the C range the intention was that upwards of 25% of all models would be female. But when we started selling the first fully formed C code, which was C01 Fighters, retailers kept complaining to us that customers weren't buying the female models, and could we not include any in their restocks. So we took the female models out of circulation. (I simply didn't include the molds in the production cycle). It wasn't the only example! And so we pretty much stopped any thoughts of doing massive ranges of female wizards, etc. This was the early 80's. Citadel customers at that time made clear to us they weren't interested in buying female models. So when we get to the new Rogue Trader [for context, that was the old name for 'Warhammer 40k'] ranges and exciting new Space Marines model ranges it was difficult to see how we could logistically add in an occasional female model to the mix (blister packs had 3 Marines in them at the time and the days of huge random mixes were long gone). And we'd knew if every marine blister had a female model as one of the 3 Marines that folk would complain. So we didn't make any female ones except for the very occasional ones that pop up from time to time. All the background fluff about why there are only male Marines is there to justify a commercial logistics issue. BTW the success of the plastic Marines RTB01 Set also played a part. It never occurred to us to make any of those models female (and it certainly wouldn't have been possible to make it so there were two or three in a box). That Set to a large degree defined what Marines were."

My thought is, given that we're 4 decades past the 80's, perhaps it's worth giving the ol' female space marines another shot. Probably wont happen any time soon though. Only time will tell.
While I know it is an extension of what the God Emperor crafted, and that it still relies on the Primarch's gene seed, I don't t know if it's ever gone into full detail on how the process differs, or if suddenly female applicants (that could qualify for the insane requirements to become a marine) would become more viable with this new process over the previous process used for First-Born marines.
lol, ultimately it's up to GW.
Sure, it is always up to GW.
More to your point though, it stands to reason that since the process differs only in the three extra organs but is still entirely reliant on the Primarch gene seed, the Primarchs being all male thus the gene seed implantation working only on male physiology, being the reason the Astartes process worked only on the males, one could clearly and easily come to the conclusion that the Primaris way wouldn't somehow make it easier for female applicants to start rapidly populating the Chapters.
But one could easily conclude that all the Squats were eaten by Tyranid, and yet the Leagues of Votann exist.
lol, I do hear what you're saying, though. :)
Does it stand to reason that the new process would be just as unlikely to work on female applicants? Absolutely.
But. is there an opening for female Space Marines now that the process has changed? Potentially.
Again, it's up to GW.
Well, since this is fantasy space science. It's hard to definitively say anything.
Also, the process of making Primaris Space Marines isn't simply 'just adding three extra organs.' That's under-selling what Cawl developed. Cawl created the process of making Primaris Space Marines by using the original Space Marine template as the starting point for the new Primaris Marines. But it's just the starting point, that leaves a lot of latitude for what potentially could or could not be possible. And it's probably been intentionally kept vague so GW can do whatever fantasy space science they want moving forward.
I understand the point you're trying to make but I remember playing the game from around the time of 2nd and 5th edition and the disappearance of the Squats was never actually stated. Then one would show up in an old Abnett series, Ravenor (A fun read), only for GeeDubs to then say they never existed.
Then we get to a couple years back and there's a quote in Liber Xenologis saying that "there was a time when they were a common sight in Imperial warzones" but "they have become rare", with rumours that "many of their home worlds were devoured by xenos fleets and they are now nomads, either drafted into Auxilla regiments or offering their services as mercenaries."
And now they're back as a race of a clones.
I don't really want that level of lore ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ with the Astartes, just so a fraction of people can be happy.
Why than, do you NEED females to be equal to men? Your argument is trash… y’all spend way to much time on reddit like LitErALlY
"Fantasy space science." Let's not cop out when it comes to the reasoning, if you don't care about the lore then that's fine, I legitimately have nothing against that, but don't act like the people that do shouldn't, especially when your larger point can just be boiled down to "Well anything could happen" because of course anything could happen, but at that point why even get invested in anything?
It's not under selling what Cawl developed at all, the process of crafting an Astartes has remained remarkably similar to what came before. What Cawl did was spend 10,000 years tinkering with the Emperor's work, at the behest of Guilliman, to ever so slightly improve upon the original template. One of those improvements has been making the gene-seed far more stable, resulting in far less genetic deviancy. GW have not really kept it vague at all, and as I have stated before, it is still very much in-line with how a Space Marines is described being made in their second edition codex.
It’s impossible for female space marines to exist, until it isn’t.
lol, either way, like I said earlier I’m extremely sceptical female marines will appear in this game.
It would be cool if Sisters of Battle were playable characters though, even if they came in an update after launch. :)
