Tyrannids as the main foe? Bad idea I fear.
Orks brought personality, charm & levity to the first game. (at least until the Chaos segment of the narrative took over).

I fear Tyrannids as the main foe of the campaign will very quickly leave it feeling stale & characterless.
Thoughts?

I don't mind Tyranids and it's currently up to the narrative in TT, plus there's gonna be Tzeench's chaos demons and traitors so it's fine. Ork at the end of the day are just a mass of green flesh charging as much as Tyranids.
There is a simple answer for voiced enemies: Make the voice of the tyranids be some nut job gene stealer cultist with a funni accent who yells at you from atop cliffs and you have to chase him around to stop him sabotaging planetary defences.

Also the tzeentch sorcerers as part of the tzeentch faction may speak too

There are interesting Tyrannids from what I remember. The one-eyed dude for example. Also it all comes down how they will write them, there can be cool characters with personality without using voices. I don't expect Tranzyn level of personality but something, out of main big baddies.

Nurgle has the same problem, it is used a lot, but without any personality and it makes people roll their eyes seeing it. While in reality Nurgle and his Legion has Amazing Story and characters in them.

Main issue isn't the source material, but lack of creativity from writers.

I must confess I'm not overly familiar with recent 40K writings, having stopped following tabletop 25+ years ago.

However Tyrannids do still seem to be portrayed as a hive mind gestalt consciousness.
How can that possibly be compatible with "cool characters & personality" ?!?

You can make a badass Lictor who is stalking our team, showcasing how he kills guards and retreats when seeing you. I'm speaking about showing, their movement, you can tell someone is annoying for how they move etc. It's hard to explain for me, but it's just giving Tyranids more personal movements and showcasing the big Bugs, giving them more spotlight with what they do.

For example show us Genestealer errupting from guardsmen and betraying us etc.

im personally in preference for tyranids, we already had orks, while i want SM2 to be like SM1 in core gameplay with its improvements, i dont want it to be a literal copy. if i want to fight orks i can go back to SM1.

I wasn't necessarily advocating for Orks being the primary antagonists a second time, though a few choice cameos surely wouldn't go amiss.

Rather, I was thinking of all the other characterful Xeno scum we could be purging.
Some could deliver very different combat styles to the largely hoard-based engagements we faced in the first game.

What about Orks with different hats? /snark

I want more of the universe visited as well. I actually lost enthusiasm when the Chaos teaser dropped. I'm tired of Chaos.
Orks may have had personality, but Tyranids can come in giant swarms. I'm looking forward to killing a swarm that numbers in the billions.

Read the Uriel Ventris Books, or listen to them, the Second Book shows Why they are cool as Foes, and that they are a bane to the universe that almost all races stop fighting each other and focus on the Tyranids, atleast for a short time, then they kill each other again
Some screenshots suggestes that the Thousand Sons are gonna be the major antagonists like the Chosen of Nemeroth were in the first game

I'm sure you're aware of the folly in expecting someone to read a book before they're able to properly appreciate a video game :steamfacepalm:
I'm ok with it. Orks get done too much and I think even the forces of chaos would have been less interesting. I always disliked marine vs marine fighting. Tyranids have a large diversity of creatures from swarms of creatures to singular monsters.
Probably as an dlc.

Honestly, I am more interesting to view Orks as an potential choice for an PVP.
