Agreed. The roar of mag dumping in darktide feels incredible.
This needs to be addressed.
Devs seem to have this idea that the bolter is some basic starting weapon so it should sound weak. No it isnt, its a devastating weapon that blows dudes into large chunks. It doesnt even shoot bullets it shoots tiny rocket propelled grenades.
This just goes to show how underappreciated audio design is, and how few actually good audio engineers/designers there are working in game dev. Its been like 6 years since I last played Elite Dangerous, but I still remember how that game sounded. It was amazing, the raspy roars of the Viper's engines especially
I'll repeat myself: Boltgun did a fine enough job with the Bolter sounds. As in, better than most devs who screw it up, like exhibit A: the video I posted in the OP.
You know what's "weak"? THOSE sounds. The Boltgun game is the hill you wanna die on? Really? If you finish a crusade against the laughable sound effects seen in the video above, then you can get back to me about how "bad" Boltgun's sounds are.
Just because something else is even worse doesnt make the first thing automatically good. Dont be so childish
Have it your way. How about this? You're wrong, case closed, no more discussion to be had.
Boltgun has been released. Whine about its sound design all you want; unless someone mods it, you're crying over spilt milk. This game still has the potential to change for the better.
And that's leaving aside the fact that this has nothing to do with Boltgun regardless. You came by and took issue with a passing remark and went off about it, when it's not the point of the thread. This is about THIS game and how its bolter sound design as portrayed in this trailer is unconscionable. If they don't fix it, it will detract massively from the experience.
Keep bumping the thread though, more eyes is better
You love to see it.
