Space Marine 2's biggest risk factors:
1. That Saber's previous game World War Z while impressive on the tech side wasn't that impressive when it came to gameplay feel. I will say that what we have seen in the trailers so far looks infinitely better than World War Z, especially the oomph of the melee animations, but we can't truly know until we play.
2. In game facial animation. We have yet to see any facial animation of any characters in the actual game. World War Z also had zero facial animation so Saber have zero track record on this. I replayed SM1 recently and in game cutscenes with facial animation were quite important.
3. Story. SM1 wasn't some incredible story, but it was still very well done for what it was imo. A nice tidy satisfying package with a solid start middle and end. Simple, but good fun playing a gigachad marine. World War Z had very little story, just VA during combat really, so again, no real track record.
On top of this, for some strange reason, they picked a twitter activist to be the narrative lead, on an IP that is perhaps the darkest IP currently going due to there effectively being only bad guys. Just Bizzare they didn't get in a black library writer as the narrative lead. As it is, It's definitely a genuine worry that activist will sterilise the thematics or use it as a vehicle for their views while suppressing what the general public wants out of it. We'll just have to wait and see.
4. less of an issue to the overall game, but Space Marine 1 came with a number of different game modes alongside the singe player campaign including a PvP and a wave defense co-op mode. Sadly games these days always seem to be lesser than their predecessors, but it would be a shame if SM2 has fewer features than SM1.
Honestly, I'm more negative than positive that this game will be a hit/good. These risk factors going badly can very easily make this a lesser game than SM1.
Also devs should know that the warhammer community is pretty sick of being taken for granted and will light a game on fire if they feel devs are taking the p*ss.

ok her twitter is cringe but not as bad as i thought it would be. that forum thread reeks of concern trolling for the sake of drama.
Saber/Focus.. meh.. This is not good.. Game gonna be filled with micro dlc's with paywalled content, like Snowrunner and other Sab/Foc titles
Relic destroyed DoW3. AoE4 and CoH3 aren't exactly gems either.
If Saber and their team cannot deliver; they should sell what they have to someone else who can do the job and wash their hands of it.
Because if either the devs or the publishers mess this up:
They will never recover from it.
Taking off the nostalgia colored glasses, Space Marine 1 was a very mediocre game.
We'll see how Space Marine 2 shapes up.
Idk if I would call it 'mediocre', more like simple in the way that Halo 1 was simple.
Either way it certainly looks pretty good in light of the burning train wreck that is modern AAA gaming currently jfc....So if SM2 manages to be at least as good as SM1, I would be pretty happy.
Yeah, and 'all' Darktide had to do was be as good as Vermintide 2, and we see how that went.
I think that SM 1 was a good game that got a lot of things right. In fact by standards of W40k games it's amazing.
That's no indication of quality of SM 2 though since different devs are involved and given that GW has zero ♥♥♥♥♥ to give about quality of games that use its license.
