Recently just had all my save files randomly wiped, all of my saves were randomly reset to an empty state, it is unclear if this is somehow the result of a mod, but it is very strange it affected *all* save files even those I didn’t touch with mods.

For context I had the top 3 save files modded & the rest were unmodded save files from when I completed the game normally.

Current running theories are:

Having the game installed on two devices: (but the game has you manually upload steam cloud saves, so this is unlikely).

Changing accounts: (I play Payday at night with my dad, so I swap accounts on my Steam Deck rather frequently).

Steam Deck: (I mean it could also be a steam deck bug somehow maybe, as it did happen on my deck).

It to my knowledge has only ever happened to like one other person besides me, so I imagine there has to be very strange conditions for the bug to occur which is why I think one of the above theories are possibly to blame.

Thankfully I had a save uploaded from when I was level 172 but now I got to reclimb the elevator which sucks.

I was working on a mod to make the game harder so replaying from the beginning isn’t that big a deal I guess since I’ll be tweaking things anyways, but it still sucks since I wanted to finish up unlocking the achievements in my free time & I was pretty high up the tower.

If anyone else who has ever experienced the bug could share if they had a similar situation, or even potentially have any other theories or leads it would be helpful for discovering the potential cause of the bug & ways to potentially mitigate it.

This just happened to me.

I hadn't played in a few days so I boot up the game on my Deck like normal (Note: I've only played this game on my Deck. It's not and has never been installed on any other device). The game asked me to Accept the "Terms" which I immediately thought was weird because it should only do that on the first run.

At the title screen, I noticed that my controller settings aren't correct (I edited the default layout to make navigating a little easier for me). So I edit the controller settings, press A to Start Game and then I see the save game pop-up completely empty. I only had 1 save file and, of course, the auto save. All gone.

I checked the game properties and Cloud Sync showed "0 bytes stored". I don't know what happened because I never touch my Cloud Syncs or Cloud settings.

Note: I did NOT have any mods installed.

I'm not 100% sure but I think this happened a couple days ago when I used the Storage Cleaner plugin for Decky Loader to free up space on my internal drive. I used "Clear All Compat Data" and given the Cloud Save issues this game already had... That would explain why the Cloud Sync is empty and my save files are gone.

I was only 9-10 hours and level 60-ish but I'll be taking a break from this game for a while... If not forever. #FeelsBadMan

If you haven't tried it modded yet you should consider it, I get that losing your save can be debilitating, but there are a lot of fun mods & shortcut mods: Money gain, reduced shop prices, "skip x5", restored collabs, restored dna system, new weapons, cards, boss chips, characters, etc.

I didn't think of modding the game but that would definitely fix some of the gripes I had with progression and grinding.
