Is this game playable in 2020?
So I just noticed in my steam library a F2P version available so I downloaded it but all I get is a Sony Online Entertainment launch box when I hit play. Is there a server up? I know Sony took it down in 2014 but steam is showing it in my library so wondering if an emulator for the game was worked out some how.

The only way to play this game now is trough an emulator:
https://www.vgoemulator.net/index.php

It work but very low player base, 5-10 players. This is a very alpha stage cause they start the emulator from an early stage client. They dont have the last build. Anyway still fun to play.

Thanks for the link steam should really remove this as an option in your library, the only good thing is it might raise awareness about the game. How is the duping in the emulator? If they are using an early build this would make me hesitant as it was a huge issue early in the games development.

I loved this game and was excited to see it offered on steam again. But I get the same problem; just a black launch screen and nothing else. Steam should either make it work or get rid of it.

Asolutely love this game!

I could play it for just the in-game mini game card game which you use to adjuicate encounters with NPCs.

What really 'sells me' is being able to have '3-space ' freedom of movement. and the opnen world - when you get a flying mount - you actually can go to the places that you see on the horizon.

Last I had heard (yr or 2 past, now) the volunteers have got things playable to level 20.. will return to it, myself, at somepoint ( aminto toehr things presently).

Hi mate, I am member of the VGOemu team, so let me correct your post a bit: we are using the last released client from SOE and that the game is still in alpha state because we have to rebuild it from scratch. Anyway, feel free to join us via Discord to see more :)

The mods or programmers or whatever the hell they call themselves at vgoemulator have been working on this emu for over 7 years. and its NOWHERE finished.

From what ive heard theres another Vanguard emu coming up thats 96% done.
Should be ready by dec.

I love this game, and even when it was less done, it was still well worth my time -

i played a blood mage to lvl 14 so far, and it felt like when i played on retail, so saying it's "NOWHERE finished" is an exaggeration, but where did you hear about another Vanguard emu?

Or, is "another" meaning a further development of the same from the same VGE folks?
Not heard of or seem anything else from anyone else.

The people doing the emulator project have had to piece together a great amount of things that were missing. I hope more people play because that is the main value for me to play any game, and why I prefer MMOs.
