Unholy MG challenge impossible?
Am I the only one who can't manage to beat the game using only unyholy MG?! I build straightaway with max structures, high crit, high damage, and attack speed, but can't surpass the 5th circle with only these bummy ass machine guns. Maybe if they had more synergies, like projectile pierce or quantity. Please help.

EDIT: Thanks to the new (much needed) bloat update, I've successfully completed the challenge! Also I'm only like one small task away from 100% so that's neat

You know the passives? You can have all of them enabled, and it still triggers the challenge. Range also helps a lot.

If you just can't do it with damage, try using the active ability build. Spam as many Invigiron as you can get your hands on, and use as many actives as you find. In general, with a high enough Invigiron count, you can use some combination of Blessing of Protection, Hellfire, Holy Hand Grenade, and Struggle to decimate the sinners' advance. My own run I had 7 purple Invigiron and kept a massive horde at bay just next to my towers for an extended period of time because Struggle spam on a really low cooldown is just that good. You will still need damage active abilities and some level of "Oomph!" in your Unholy MGs to ensure you don't get overwhelmed before reaching a critical mass of Invigiron.
Edit: to clarify, yes I think you need Struggle for this plan to work, and in general I just keep everything on autocast.

P.S. since this is not endless, you don't actually need Butcher of Sin, but it can help if you find it and keep it off cooldown until you're getting swarmed (i.e. it is an exception and not something I autocast), but personally I would just use it as fusion fodder unless I was already in a great spot.

* Crit is important, make sure your crit cards are upgraded as high as possible
* Unholy Damage > Tower Damage > Attack Speed
* Hail Satan is one-use but can be extremely powerful at the start
* Active powers are still allowed in the challenge. Dark Mark (especially if you stack Curse) and Blood Clot are staple survival abilities. Blessing of Protection helps but isn't mandatory. Stack a T3 or T4 Invigaron if you can.
* Shot is a useful recovery ability for employees who draw a lot of cards - excellent match for Denny, but also helps mitigate Niya's downside.
* Do not underestimate Extra Choice.

I definitely thought the same. I've had a ton of success with Niya. Use her draw ability EVERY TURN. Get curse out and lots of shields. You're gonna run on low health for a loooong time, but you can aggressively level stats. Don't worry about tower damage unless it's better than Unholy (like Builder). Get good crit and range. Disregard other stuff.

Didn't find it too hard, though I agree that the final wave is kinda sketchy with Machineguns. Max crit, a bunch of range, most active abilities and all the damage.

This is exactly my issue. WHY does unholy MG require such a PERFECT combination to work, but the sunder run is so easy. Also, I've unlocked nearly every other card in the game, so my deck is just so BLOATED with trash. When successful runs take an hour IRL, it can be exhausting just waiting for the right cards to come along...

it doesnt really require anything. UMGs show their full potential once you stack attack speed and damage (crit is damage). You dont really need range either. Once enemies are not instakilled at max range - no amount of extra range will really help. It'll only delay a bit.

I got this today. One tip I haven't seen mentioned is don't immediately combine all the mgs. Sometimes two is better than one.

Most turrets have a breakpoint where combining them gives you a net decrease in DPS, yes. Best only combine when you have a new one coming to replace one of the merged ones.

It takes the DLC, but I had an extremely easy time doing this with John Fenriz(Riffmaster skin). More Unholy MG > Crit > Attack Speed > Range > Damage. It takes some thinking about combining and play order, but otherwise I did not have to rely on luck, I brute forced my Unholy MG run through constant combines and always being able to play stuff thanks to RIffmaster skill.

If you can get an infrastructure card(+15% damage when playing structure) and a couple extra T2 Unholy MGs, all you'd need from there is Range, Attack Speed and crit(Or lots more damage if crit starved). I beat my 2nd UnholyMG only run(torment 1) with only 11% crit and no legendary towers

You can also still just use Unknown and play rocks to deal aoe damage between rounds I believe.

What helped me with this challenge, besides the actives, was getting a couple of items.

Lucky - (the lute) ups coin drops by 2% per use
Coin Barrage - (pot of gold) gives 10% chance for coin to explode with unholy damage per use

The explosions can and will cause chain reactions and massively clear out the maps :steamhappy:

Why are people still trying to give solutions to this? I did it months ago.

For in case those unlucky employees who have not yet beaten the challenge are looking for answers. I say keep them coming, those sinners won't punish themselves. :AirTarget:
