Does Multiplayer still work?

If i buy this game id like to play with friends, but since its an older game im not sure if the servers are still online. i keep hearing people talk about playing this game on tunngle but i dont know what the ♥♥♥♥ that is and if it requiers a password ans stuff i really dont feel like setting that up. i remember the AI being pretty good so i might just buy it and play single player. also do i need a ubisoft account to log in? or does it just use my steam info?

You can actually play skirmish MP online but not Theater of War
