Debating on getting this or Balatro, what do you think?
Pros, Cons?

Pros? This game adeptly combines two great flavors - FTL and Slay The Spire - and (like FTL) has a great soundtrack and some decent humor. It just feels good to play.

Cons? As much as it mimics FTL and Slay The Spire, it's not nearly as challenging as either of them. But to be fair, neither is Balatro, and between this game and Balatro, I played Cobalt Core for longer before I felt I'd seen everything it had to throw at me.

Very funny. I am playing both this and Balatro now. I will definitely put more hours in Balatro than this. But I'd recommend both!!

played Balatro for 80hrs, still not done with it. so fresh, so many unlocks and possible builds.

played this for 10, feels like I'm already almost done with it. still a nice game, but definitely not as deep, original nor challenging.

I've definitely had a lot of fun with both this and balatro. I too would recommend both.

If I could only choose one it would be Balatro but it would be close. Balatro wins on the addiction front by far. It is extremely hard to put down were as I play this game for a hour or so now and again.

imo slay the spire is easier than this game if only because being able to get a good deck in this game feels a lot more RNG dependant

I like Cobalt Core a lot more than Balatro ... but that's just me 🃏

Why does this remind me of: "The customer is always right in matters of taste" 😹

Both games are excellent variations on the roguelike deckbuilder genre and very unique in their own right. Balatro does seem deeper and more to do to fully unlock and experience however CC has an actual story, banter between cute characters etc. can’t go wrong getting both.

To be honest, I don't consider this a con whatsoever. Now, I love Slay the Spire, but easily its biggest issue is that the bosses are so overtuned that you absolutely NEED to use specific card sets in order to reach the thresholds required to beat them. It makes it so that your run is pretty much entirely dictated by the first couple of cards you get and how you build around them. It makes a lot of successful runs feel kinda samey and tedious.

Cobalt Core CAN be that difficult with some of the worse characters and ships on the hardest difficulty, but if you just want to play and have fun with it, there are a lot more viable strategies and deck-building goals you can work toward. On the easier difficulties you have more room to be sub-optimal and still come out on top.

This game has cute space furries. Balatro does not.
