how did you guys even connect online? My epic is linked to my steam but it wont let me login.
Of course you can only visit worlds at the moment. The store page is completely upfront about this, and states "INVITE FRIENDS TO YOUR ISLAND. Once you build your villages and grow your ecosystems how you want, it’s time to show them off! Invite up to 3 friends to explore your island, collect and trade items, plant ecosystems, and get cozy."
Roadmap says Q2, 2025 for "Expanding multiplayer activities and experiences" and Crossplay.
Yet it DOES lead a great many people who can read and comprehend the words that they read to think to themselves, "Ah, I see, more of a Social thing rather than full Co-Op ATM". Maybe these "everyone" you refer to DIDN'T read anything in the first place and went by info they got third-hand from some Internet Random who didn't know what they were talking about. Maybe they read it without paying attention, and/or just chose to interpret the words to mean what they wanted them to mean. Either way, that's down to them, and not the Devs or their game. They put the info out there, and if someone can't grasp it, well, tough.
Lets see, what would you call a game where you can invite friends to your game. Show them around. Fight battles with them. Gather resources and trade resources. Oh, but not until you finish a bridge that opens up the part past the initial very long tutorial? Right now it might be 95%, but the game isn't even 30% complete, and 50% of that isn't working, so like 15% complete. So it is like the first 15 or 20% of the game you can't play coop.
So they should say it is what, partially coop? Nightingale called their game coop, but you also had to finish a tutorial at the start, although for them, it was maybe 2 hours for the tutorial.
I think the change needed here it to make the tutorial part much more tutorial and much shorter. Not to say the game is not coop.
It’s not multiplayer, nor is it co-op. It’s a grown-up Animal Crossing. Quests and progression are completely blocked if you have a friend on your island. This is clearly not a multiplayer game in its current state.
