it's not a female it's just a character, it's designed in a way where it can be male or female, it's why they never really show the main characters face anywhere.

More than likely just a place holder until they add character creation to the game. I read your character always has a mask on, so yes, it should be pretty generic, not look specifically male or female. Sounds fine to me, considering it is Early Access.

Linear games are a bit different. This game is presented as a survival build/growth game. Which almost always allows you to make a char. So you can feel immersed in the world.

Everyone was angry when Sons of the Forest forced you to be a guy, and I understood that.

Nice avatar @Retro. Anyway, the oldest game play showed a male player model, but the latest ones only show the same female one, even across co-op game play they seem to use the same player model. It would make sense to have this very basic variety especially because they already have a model that is rigged and good to go. The masks are already meant to have a feeling of anonymity, but they made an active choice to change from a male model to the newer female model, so that is odd. I hope it's more of the devs just having the male model for so long throughout all their development and testing that a new model was just nice to play with and they all use it for that reason. But still, odd that they ONLY show that model.

Maybe it doesn't really matter what gender, but apparently some people have a bit of a hang up over it.

Honestly, I don't identify with my character that way, but I suppose some people do. I mean to me, it is a video game, not real life. I've played as both sexes in some games. Depends on my mood. In real life I'd never dress as a women, but in a video game I was trying to find the best outfits because that was all part of that particular game. Nothing sexual at all in the game about it though, was all just fun stuff. Not sure why some people are so hung up on what their character looks like. In most games with a character creator, I just hit the random button a few times until I get something I like to look at.
