How do you set it to full screen or is it normal to have the black bars on the top and bottom?

It should be in fullscreen, make sure you've set the aspect ratio to 16:9 then switch to 1920x1080.

All it gives me for aspect ratio is Normal and Widescreen.

Widescreen is 16:9 so that should work!

Well it did work.... altho i couldn't play it on the max resolution had to knock it back by one.

each time i try to put it on 1920x1080 it all goes blank :/

Try to scale it slowly, it worked when I worked my way up on resolutions and remember to set the ratio to 16:9 (Widescreen)
