Linux Title
any chance we can see a linux client anytime soon ? I've bought this game when it first came out, total disaster, canceled my sub and didn't even try it when it went free. Now i read nice things about it (if you get a sub) but still no Linux client. How about making this the first AAA MMO to run natively under linux ? i will defenetly activate my sub then.

Maybe you should just get Windows instead, because it most likely wont happend ^^

Can't happen, the graphics were developed with DX10 in mind. Unless in future there is a shift in the Dreamworld technology this will remain the case. I don't know what the hit will be in frame rate but running VMware like XEN might be answer for you.

No chance.
They cancelled the XBox-Client early on.
There are no devs and no money to do it and probably not much revenue to expect from it.

You are missing the point, i'm defenetly not going to install windows for a game, dosn't matter what game. I was speaking in terms of popularity AOC is slowly dying, and i for one WOULD PAY a monthly sub IF it had a linux client. I know allot more like me are expecting a MMO Game to have a linux client. Dunno if it will be AOC...or maybe SWTOR, or maybe even WOW. But if AOC were to make this step i know it would boost allot of publicity + allot of subs. LIke i sad 2 times allready, my money are here, come get it, bring the game to Linux.

Having a linux client for AoC is much harder than the other MMO's because of the decisions made on the tech when it was in development. Everything is integrated and not modular so making changes to it, such as the promised cross server tech and even smaller updates such as the new crafting update, becomes a monumental task for the programmers. They would have to re-write the code from scratch.

The Secret World has more chance to have a linux client as it is newer. However currently WoW does work well with WINE and there was a native linux client created years ago, but I'm not sure if it's still maintained. Natively programmed linux MMO's such as Vendetta are still being supported and expanding onto Android so there are still a few options out there.

But I do agree with your premise that more AAA MMO titles should be programmed with Linux users in mind. Hopefully Steam OS and a Mantle linux client will change developers thinking on this.

No chance, they've officially stopped updating the game. It'll be left up and running for now, but thats about it.
