so free only means gear?
are there levels higher then 80?
and 100% sure there are no systems im locked out of?

beyond that, how viable is it to solo up in the game?

Solo leveling is fine, in AoC the leveling is meant to be done through questing, and most of them are solo quests.

80 is the max level.
You can level up to 80 as f2p.
As f2p, you won't be able to access most of the endgame content : most of the lvl80 playfields/ dungeons/raids are not available. You also won't be able to use Alternate Advancement which are buffs and abilities used to further improve your character at lvl 80.

Basically, try the game for free, level up to 80 if you enjoy it, and if you want to continue beyond that, then subscribe (and buy the Kithai expansion set).

Important note : this is the current state of things, but Funcom have announced there will be major changes soon ; they have hinted that all content will become f2p except for the dragon spine playfields (which contain the very top raid tiers, t5 and t6).

lets go with now.

everquest has AA free gets 250 and if you paid 5$ ever you get 1000,
the level cap is 105 or 110 i forget
with only 250 aa, you can only go to level 65 comfortably,
with 1000 you can get to 70-80 depending on class comfortably

how much do you feel not having aa?

However, as it's been stated above, Funcom is releasing new changes to both free to play and to premium memberships. As a free player, you will soon be able to go into expansion areas that you have purchased. Such as Dragonspine, Rise of the Godslayer, Turan, and Shadows of Vanaheim.

The only purchased area a free player is currently locked out of 'Rise of the GodSlayer' expansion.

The others 'quest packs' (not expansions) already operate as all other games do; You buy it and can play it even if a Free Player. I know as I have Turan.
I am playing ftp - if I buy an extra slot - is that slot available for me to play ftp?

[Actually I'll post this as another thread]
