Any packs to buy with this game?
Starting off as a Guardian, taking Alchemy and Gemcutting as my professions, wondering if there are any starter packs or expansions to buy that give your account long-term premium benefits, or if membership is the way to go, and if so, when?

There are no starter packs I'm aware of and the subscription "premium" benefits are completely tied to a subscription that needs to be maintained and aren't available in any one time purchase.

However, there are permanent benefits to buying the expansions which are one time purchases.

Mostly, the expansion benefits will only be useful at level 80. There are some benefits to lower levels though.

I believe it's the Vanaheim expansion that gives an ice bear mount with infinite claims. You can claim it with every and any characters you make forever after getting the expansion. The main benefits to it is that it requires no mount skill training at all and can be used starting at level 20 where normal mounts can't be used till 40. Vanaheim also adds a solo area that is good for level 80 and has some level 80 faction vendor bought gears. Most of those require over 10 gold though so can't be bought unless you sub. There are some low level purple chest armors though for 75 silver that you can buy and transfer to alt characters once you have 1 high level that has worked the faction.

The Turan expansion adds an entire level 50-60 area to the game that can be a great boost to leveling through those ranges. It also adds 2 solo instances, one at level 80 and one that that scales to your level. Both are a solo source for rare trophies that are required in many high level faction purchases.

The Khitai expansion is the main area for play at level 80. When it comes right down to it, there isn't that much to do at max level without the expansion.

As far as to when you want to get the expansions or membership it's mostly up to you. The majority of the benefits are only seen at level 80 but some are throughout like AA timed training and the experience boost.

I personally waited until I had a level 80 and decided I wanted to continue playing before I bought the expansions and just went ahead and got the bundle of all 4.

Subscription is still a major effect because of the 10 gold limit on non subscribers and the >10 gold cost on may high end things. You do keep any gold you get over the cap but you just can't access it without a subscription.

However, if you're dedicated and frugal enough, you can save up enough gold and resources to get all of what you would want at level 80 and then subscribe for 1 month to remove the gold cap and buy the stuff then let the subscription end and not really have to care about the gold cap returning.

Is there any way to remove/increase the gold cap with a one-time purchase, or at least by NOT having to maintain an active subscription?

The gold cap is a legitimate concern to me because I'm pretty sure I'll have far more than 10 gold banked long before I hit Level 80. From Level 1 to level 80 on a WotLK WoW server it's not uncommon for me to have 10k gold banked by the time I hit 80, and that's after purchasing all my flight training.

None at all. It's only unlocked while you have a sub running.

A F2p player will have anything above 10g put into an escrow account that only unlocks while you have a sub running.

Not a great way around it, but if you create a guild (1 character is all that's needed) you can put your gold into the guild bank which doesn't have a cap. That way you'd have access to all the gold you've earned, even if only in 10g chunks.

Beyond the fact that getting a sub to work now a days (somethings wrong on Funcoms side, money goes in, but no vip status comes out) you really don't need one until you start questing in Khitai. The faction armor there generally costs more than 10g.

Neither of the 2 packs listed here in the steam store are really worth it just starting out.

The auto level to 80 bundle won't do you a bit of good unless you're experienced with the game play. The other one you'd need to bounce the price off of the ingame store to see how it works out for all the adventure packs and the expansion.

Of the adventure packs; Vanaheim is a lvl 20 to 80 level range, where the pack scales itself to what ever your character is when he enters every time. While not a bad pack, it's not needed as you have all that content out in the f2p world and is more for those that have run multiple characters.

Turan is a great pack, but is a small level range.

Dragonspine and Khatai are for those that want to continue playing after they've hit lvl 80.
