When I downloaded it, it was around 20GB need more on drive though as its compressed

If you install the game over steam does it install the normal launcher and download the game over it? Or is it an own install? Im asking because steam download might be faster than the download over the normal game launcher.

Steam will download the regular launcher and the (dated) game files Steam has on record. After the Steam download is done and you log in the game will go into another download period bring all the files up to date (which could take almost as much time depending on how out of date Steams files were).

It's not really a matter of speed since with Steam you're looking at 2 downloads because for some reason (prob hardware) the files in Steam just aren't kept up to date. I guess it's the same situation as if you downloaded a game from the Disk and then went online to the game, it would need to bring the files up to date.

Somewhere on one of the Steam fourms it talks about starting Steam to get it to registar and then stopping it and completing the download from the companies site. With directing the companies download to the Steam files - I don't do that so I'm not sure. That way you get the Steam time counter, wallet etc.... , but don't have to put up with downloading the game two times.
