Flopped so Hard
It got more players than Concord did so it's better I guess but it's still under 1000 players on release date. I know that it's an old game and maybe not the best one of the DQM Saga but damn I wasn't expecting a player count so low.
Probably it's because they removed the online aspect of the game and they added devuno for a singeplayer campaign mode that makes no sense.
I played the original DQM Joker on my DS 14 years ago and I was quite happy to see the Saga releasing on Steam but I guess this is the first and the last spin-off that they will ever release here

I mean i bought this because i don't partake in 30 FPS 504p Console gaming with cranked motion blur and Depth of field so like every console.
I only partake in GIGACHAD PC gaming.

They didn't advertise it much. I assume SQEX is hoping for the long tail like they have with some other games they kinda just threw onto Steam.
This. I didn't even know it released.
I played it on switch because I never would have guessed that they’d put it on steam.
I stoked this game just randomly popped up on steam. Love the DQM series but haven't gotten into them since DQM:Joker becuase I use a PC and couldnt go through the trouble of emulating it and didnt want to buy nintendo console to play it.

I don't like Denuvo or DRM in general but why they added it makes perfect sense for what it is trying to prevent. It's anti-piracy.

Denuvo has never been able to stop pirates.

What it has achieved:
Convince fans like myself to NOT buy a game till the publisher removes the anti-consumer DRM.

And as it turns out:
Waiting fo that day comes with an additional benefit => sales.

I'm 100% sure getting fans to wait for sales, instead of having them buy your game on day 1 is a great move for their bottom line. :steamfacepalm:

I hear you say:
"But they wouldn't do it if it hurts their bottom line!"
Well, we are talking about Square Enix here, the company that is seemingly allergic against making money.

There are only two red flags on the steam shop page that will 100% stop me from buying a game: requires UPlay, and/or Denuvo.

I would have bought both Visions of Mana and Dragon Quest Monsters this month if it wasn't for Denuvo. Instead i will wait for however long it takes and buy it on sale after Denuvo is gone. If they never remove it: i can live without those games too.

And yes i may not be in the majority with my opinion, but neither am i the only potential customer that thinks this way.

Denuvo 100% stops piracy. At least for a time. Denuvo is super hard to crack, and the point isn't to permanently stop it, but to prevent it for a limited time to catch the initial sales surge.

Hell there are still Denuvo games that were released in 2021 that have never been cracked (SMTIII:Nocturne for instance) and even for high profile games that had a lot of attention, and therefore more people wanting to pirate it, it can take months (It took 2 months for RE4R's denuvo to be cracked).

That's not because Denuvo is hard to crack, it's because it's usually not worth the effort.
Each new game update requires adjustments to the crack, and Denuvo gets paid by the month. Hence it's usually easier to wait till it gets removed anyways.

In todays AAA gaming world practically all big game releases are followed by boatloads of bandaid and hotfix updates. The more the game is broken on release, the less it makes sense to pirate it (because you want a working game AND a cracked Denuvo as a pirate).

Yes, Denuvo works better when you release your game in broken and unfixed state. Funny how that works out.

PS:
2 minutes on google later => the steam version of SMTIII:Nocturne was indeed never cracked. Mainly because it was a re-release on PC, and cracked roms of the console version where already sailing the under the jolly roger on the world wide web.

Dude you really don't know what you are talking about. For a long time there was literally 1 person who could reliably crack Denuvo (EMPRESS). It was annoying because EMPRESS was also a giant douchebag.

Other games that have never been cracked: Total War Warhammer 3, Deadspace Remake, Marvel Midnight Suns, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, Hi-Fi Rush, Soul Hackers 2, and many more. These are games that have very stable PC versions.

I don't support Denuvo, but you are just 100% wrong about how effective it is.

Unless a game is SUPER popular, no one will bother cracking it in a timely manner. Like I said, RE4R took 2 months to crack, and that was a huge release.

For an example of why it is going to work to discourage early piracy of DQM: Dark Prince: It took over a year for someone to crack Dragon Quest Treasures.
Over 2k players now and could go even a bit higher tomorrow. Seems fine enough to me.

just remember its probably also really low because marvel collection is out, and Lolipop chainsaw and FF16 literally around the corner.

Thank you for speaking truth, I'm against denuvo but everytime people spread lies about it literally damages our creditably against fighting it.

Generally SE has taken the 6 month approach which im honestly ok with, which is Denuvo is in the game for 6 months and then removed. Also most sale studies are the biggest sales TEND not always but tend to be in the 1-2 months of release and then after that is sales 6 months usually gives you 1 steam sale and the initial sales

people try to say it wont stop pirates which honestly is true they will generally just wait and get it pirated anyway, What it does stop is the people who have the option to pirate in the mind that they will buy it later regardless of it being full price or on sale and they never do because they already experienced the product and its also a smart business move to make it last 6 months getting 1 steam sale gets the impatient people which there are a lot of.

I would honestly just prefer everything be DRM free but i prefer steam services over stuff like what GoG provides and STEAM itself is also DRM just absurdly easy to work around, and i do understand the business model between the 6 month plan and feel its generally fair. also yeah only 1 person is still around that actively cracks denuvo and they are not only a ♥♥♥♥ overall but also will only crack games they deem Good enough, all the other crackers legit just retired years ago.
It's funny how everything i write gets ignored because of the hyperfocus on "you are super duper wrong, Denuvo is HARD to crack" ... funny because that was never the point of my reply to begin with.

I even said the lack of Denuvo cracks boils down to not being worth the effort, something we seem to agree on.

Friendly reminder:

I haven't pirated a game in well over a decade, but neither have i bought any game released from Ubisoft on steam since they require UPlay for titles here on steam (and there are a whole bunch of games i WOULD buy without UPlay), and neither have i bought any games that use Denuvo.

Good luck finding a more convincing argument against something than people that actually vote with their wallet. => I like a game, i buy the game. => it has Denuvo? => i wait for it to get removed and buy the game on sale => it doesn't get removed => no sale from me at all.

Oh, and i can already name a 3rd SE title i will handle the same way: FF16.

Have a nice day, over and out. :steamhappy:
This is a port. Not the original release LOL.
Now it's over 3000 which puts it nearly tied with Builders 2 for 2nd most popular DQ game on Steam. That's actually pretty impressive for a no-fanfare port of a game already released a year ago.
