Questions about mutant/esper mutation and progression

Hey everyone! I am later into the game with Secret of Varonis, and I have a question about mutant progression. Before I start, I want to say that this is an amazing game, I am loving it and recommend it to anyone who like old-school games with engaging storylines!!

Anyway, here is my question... mutants/espers progress by "mutating" after combat - not every battle, but from time to time. And when that happens, the player can choose one of two options to improve the mutant/esper's stats or innate abilities. Here's my question... is there a way to determine what improvements will be offered when the mutant/esper goes through this change? Can the player do something in combat that will determine what two options they are given when mutating? The mutants/espers in my party need to improve their defense and mana, but from what I can tell, the choice when mutating is random. Am I wrong in assuming this? Can anyone please clarify on this topic?

One more question - do innate abilities get stronger as my party encounters more difficult enemies?

Hello,

The first mutation on the list should be influenced by the actions you take (or, conversely, the things that happen to your Esper) in combat. The second mutation is always random.

Oh, I see - thanks for the clarification. Much appreciated. I am currently in the Gamma World, working on my characters (2 humans and 2 mutants), but both mutants are a bit low on natural progressing defense. So I am trying to do a bit of grinding to improve that aspect.

Also, I have been posting questions on the reddit Saga page, but the moderators keep taking down my posts. Pretty annoying, because my posts on Secret of Varonis were accepted for quite some time, but for some reason they are now being removed. Maybe a different moderator is reading them...?
