"Save game is either corrupt or from a newer version than the game"

Okay, guys, before I go to the Soldak Entertainment forums and post this error, I want to see if anyone here can help me. Okay, a couple of weeks back, I noticed I wasn't recieving achievements. Curious, I ignored it, but one day I got fed up and decided to validate the files to see if that would fix things. One file didn't validate and Steam downloaded it.

Since then, trying to even load the game gets me that message. I did some digging and it pointed to my chars folder. I have over 200 hours on this game and quite a few characters. I already uninstalled and reinstalled the game, to no avail. I don't want to delete my characters and start over, but I also want to play the game.

So, any help is needed. And if it fixes this without me deleting my characters and starting over, I'll buy the person a game (up to $15).

I would back up all the files in your Local/Dinscurse/User folder

You can download the latest patch (1.029 beta) off of Soldak's website. That should take care of your character save issues. I don't know if the non-Steam patch will disable achievements or not. If it does, the issue should be resolved whenever the latest patch gets pushed through Steam.
