Do I play this or Silent Hill 2 remake?

I bought Silent Hill 2 because I already played Until Dawn a couple of years ago, so it wouldn't offer anything new for me at that price. I’ve never played any Silent Hill games before, and since Silent Hill 2 is a standalone game, it’s a great starting point for players to jump into the series without needing to know anything about the universe.

Silent Hill 2 is probably a better game but Until Dawn has stuff you will like if you are a fan of horror movies while SH2 is more Japanese horror fantasy with weird body horror type stuff that really just ends up being a puzzle game with some combat and ugly environments. This game is a QTE simulator but you get more American horror movie vibes with actual actors instead of weird people faces.

I'd read up on the type of gameplay presented, the length of the game, and it's replayability. Those two games are nothing alike so pick the one you would want to play more first.
