Though it just seems people don't trust publishers that require an account with them, even though quite a bit of games do have this requirement including Microsoft.
I think people just love to crap on Sony, and over inflate any negativity.
Basically, if you want me to give you my data there needs to be an actual benefit to me. Paying you covers me getting the game. Now what do I get for agreeing to sign up?
Requiring PSN also excludes somewhere decently over 150 countries from being able to play the game because they don't support signups from those regions.
But as for requiring their service, isn't that what every major company does? Whether it's 2k, EA, Microsoft, Ubisoft, etc.
Microsoft rarely does and then it's for multiplayer, and I don't buy EA or Ubisoft games. EA because they make crap I don't care about and Ubisoft because they shut off parts of old single player games that... wait for it... require an online connection to their servers.
Honestly, I can't remember the last time I got a 2K game at this point. I don't even remember if they require that on any single player games.
Edit: Let's be honest. You asked why. I gave you reasons. You don't like them, so you think they're somehow invalid because you want the argument.
I just stopped in to see if they had changed that requirement and figured I'd give you some reasons in good faith. Now I'm off to watch The Expanse with the gf and you can, I guess, be argumentative about it if it matters that much.
I've been interested in the game for awhile, but there are plenty of good games out there I can play instead.

The better question is: why is a PSN account necessary? (spoiler: it isn't).
I find it ironic how people use "security" as justification when they freely give out much more private info to far less secure providers.
It is baffling. Especially since this jsut need an account and not credit card or any other info.
(unless you live in one of those blessed countries where the government forces you to upload a copy of the ID to make an acount, but again, thats not a sony requirement but a forced one put by your government officials)
