PSN account is now Required!
Is this going to be like the new mandate in Helldiver's 2 and require a PSN account creation and linking before you can even play?

Edit: They just updated the store listing that this single player only game will now require the PSN account

PlayStation Network Account required, subject to the PlayStation Terms of Services and User Agreement http://www.playstationnetwork.com/terms-of-service

Guess what? Sony single player games going forward (Until Dawn and GoW:R included) now require PSN accounts.

Personally I've blocked Sony as a publisher on Steam going forward.

Looks like Sony dont want to sell their games. I am so tired of these trashy launchers and pointless account to just play a single player game. Valve should really do something about this and block all these external launchers and account from steam

but that way Valve doesn't get their 30%.

My take is that we can't have nice things 'cos sheeple allow money grabbing evil capitalist corpos - that can NEVER get enough money - to continue having their way with us, the people, the potential buyers. The devs get caught in the middle. Don't for a second kid yourself they pull this networking ♥♥♥♥ because they care about us. It's about analytics, and money, and how they think they can make more money.

Only if Sony think they will lose money are they going to desist.

Like with Helldivers 2.

PSN is not an app, it's a network. PS Plus is their app.

Even though yes, there is a difference between the two with one being an app...I agree with the other user. Why should a consoles network like PSN be required just to play this game since it's a Single-Player only game?

They made the excuse that GoT required it for the multiplayer, while you could opt-in to the PSN for the overlay...but this is now a mandatory requirement similar to the GOW: Ragnarok...both of with are on Single-Player.

SONY's not only alienating specific customers, but also hindering their own sales for a Single-Player game just because of forcing the use of their own overlay. It offers the exact same features that Steam already does, friends list, achievements and chat.

It makes no sense other than they want to increase their registered users, but at the cost of global sales.
The PSN requirement is likely first and foremost to boost their active user numbers for investors, but also due to trophy support on pc.

this is a problem. I want to play a single player game, I need an Internet connection and two launchers. It's the release day, Sony has problems with servers in the part of Europe where I am - I have the game installed, but I can't run it because? Because I can't create an account on PSN. While Googling a PSN bypass, I found out that... pirates are working on it, and not only have they broken the game's security, but now they are focused on getting rid of the need to log in to Sony - and I'm sitting on Friday at 10 p.m.... wondering. what an idiot I am that I paid for it - and there will be a refund.

Well that's weird, considering that it's listed "Required" on the store listing and there's a thread with numerous people that can't play because of the PSN account linking not working right for them.

While requiring an account for a single player game is a bit dirty, I understand why they are doing it. They want to pad their PSN stats and nothing more. If anyone believed Sony was releasing games on PC out of the kindness of their black cold heart then that is on them.

With that said, how many of these people complaining about an account have bought a game recently on steam that also required an account elsewhere such as Rockstar, Ubisoft, EA, etc? If they have any titles from these companies then honestly their opinion on the matter means jack all. If you are going to complain about something then make sure you mean it.

Literally no other logical explanation for this really.

It's for data mining. I have a PS3 and PS4 and a collection of PS games. I'm certain Sony would love it that I make a link between my Steam and Playstation accounts, so Sony can access my Steam collection and data and figure out which games I prefer on PS and which games on Steam.

Some are required because the game won't run without their own launcher, like Rockstar, EA or UbiConnect. PlayStation doesn't have an actual launcher but is instead forcing the use of their PSN Account linking to their console network so you can use their overlay and trophy system. The benefits they state are already basic features on Steam and for someone like myself that doesn't own a console, there's no need for their friends list and PS trophies.

For others (and it's a LOT of them), it's the in-ability to even purchase the game legally and play because they limit where you can purchase and play due to the required PSN.

Just recently they pulled Horizon Zero Dawn from sale on steam because of the impending ReMastered edition which will require PSN. This game has been available for 4 years and never had an issue with this being required. They will most like retroactively add the PSN requirement to previous titles too that never required it, this limiting those game purchases as well.

It's the way they're handling their PC ports by enforcing this requirement instead of making it optional and allowing gamers world-wide to purchase and enjoy their games.

You won't achieve anything by asking. Just don't give them money and if you're impatient, you know what to do.
