Username stops game from being able to start (wormNET thinks username is a scheme?)

I've ran into this issue twice now, with two different players, within the space of a week.

Basically the game cannot be started ("Start the game" is greyed out), seemingly due to a player's name, and the following message will be displayed in green text once all light bulbs are on:

"ERROR: Cannot start game due to features unsupported by [username] (scheme)"

So if the player's username was, I dunno, Steve, it would read as:

"ERROR: Cannot start game due to features unsupported by Steve (scheme)"

If the player with the username in question leaves then "Start the game" is no longer greyed out and the game can then be started as normal. If they return then so does the error.

So the game (wormNET?) seems to register some usernames as an actual scheme?

Anyone else come across this?

The only solution seems to be kicking the offending player, but I'd prefer not having to do that.

can you give a screenshot? the offender is possibly on an older version of WA where such feature is unsupported

The user in this instance was called volod. They had just left by the time I took the screenshot.

Ah! Could this be because I've got advanced/rubberworm settings on (for example, girder radius assist) and they are using an earlier version of the game, like you say?
