Worms Armageddon

Worms Armageddon

Frontend audio query
Whenever not actually in a game (so whenver I'm on the frontend) the audio plays out of a non default audio device. By default I have my audio played via hdmi to my receiver, however whenever in the frontend menu / after-game report, etc the audio is played over my analogue 3.5mm line out (to my headset used for comms). Is this a limitation of the frontend sections of the game (such as an inability to send audio over digital outputs)? I can only assume this is the case as the game itself plays perfectly out of the correct device.

If anyone else has the same / similar issue and has solved it please let me know how.

I'm not aware of the problem and it is likely something configurable in your drivers software. However, if all else fails, you could try using wkSoundCardSelect[worms.thecybershadow.net] (a WormKit[worms2d.info] mod)

Place those files in \Steam\steamapps\common\Worms Armageddon,
Enable "Load WormKit modules" in advanced settings,
Follow the instructions upon restart.

Both the in-game and front end parts of the game use DirectSound for sound output, although (due to historic reasons) they use separate abstraction components over the DirectSound API. It is possible that there is a difference in the components that causes the behavior you describe, although from a cursory look I haven't noticed any intentional code that would affect the default sound output device.

You could try using the wkSoundCardSelect WormKit module to force W:A to use a specific sound card:

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Tried the wk module however the result is that the frontend is muted with game audio still playing as expected. I'm guessing the issue must be related to my use of the nvidia hdmi audio driver- perhaps the display resolution used in the frontend is restricting the ability to send audio over the hdmi cable somehow? It's of course not a massive issue, I'm just a little perplexed.
