Does online multiplayer work these days?
Hi everybody,
I am thinking about getting a copy or two of this for friends.
I am just wondering - does the multiplayer work well or does it rely on Hamachi or etc? Would like it be straightforward.

Thanks in advance for any help.

You only have to set things up once and after that it's straightforward.

the online community is still alive, you can see the current status of wormnet on https://snoop.wormnet.net/snooper/

as for hosting,

if you don't feel like doing port forwarding, just go to last resort straight away

Lobby is extremely simple, you just click multiplayer and enter the blessed wormnet which has 50-100 online players every day.
The only possible hardship is learning commands for Hosting Buddy bot, but people got you covered here ;)

Is very non-demanding regarding the ping too.

The two easiest ways to host games (if you're unable to host) are with WormNAT2 and Hostingbuddy. Both have pros and cons.

1. WormNAT2: best solution IMO because you set it up once (takes 30 seconds) and you can host normally forever using the regular Host button. To set up, download and extract https://worms.thecybershadow.net/wormkit/wkWormNAT2.zip to your Worms folder, and enable Load Wormkit Modules in WA's advanced options. Done. The only downside is you have to have your own schemes and maps in order to host (unless you use default schemes like Intermediate and random maps).

2. Hostingbuddy: You host and control the game options using text commands. See Stoopedhooy's link above. The benefit of this is HB automatically fetches maps and schemes for you and sends them to the other players. Also, you can quit the game without ending the game for others, unlike with WormNAT2. People seem a bit more likely to join HB games because the schemes are standardized and predictable, unless the host modifies them, and because host quitting doesn't end the game.

A friend of mine was a while ago able to host things but when we tried earlier today nevermind who was hosting, the prompt for entering the passwort not appears.
