Worms Armageddon

What's the difference between Worms Armageddon and Worms 2?
I've read that the multiplayer in Worms Armageddon and Worms World Party are basically the same (maybe with minor adjustments), with the single player missions being the thing that's different in those two games.

But what's new in Worms Armageddon compared to Worms 2? Was Worms Armageddon in a lack of a better word just a cashgrab? As of now I haven't really found a list of differences between Worms 2 and Worms Armageddon.

WA is newer and more active than W2

WWP was the cashgrab game

You didn't even answer his question presumably because you were getting defensive over armageddon. He wants to know the list of differences between 2 and armageddon.

WA has:
- one more column of weapons
- 5 utilities (above F1)
- a way better frontend (and there's a mod to fullscreen the frontend)
- way more themes (the community managed to make custom themes too)
- teams now have flags, graves, and fanfares (and supports custom ones)
- graves that aren't team colored, but the team picks one
- color maps that can be any size that isn't default-sized
- more default map presets
- backflipping

the scheme editor relatively is a mixed bag. you cant make weapons to be utterly ridiculous, but since 3.8, there are a lot of other things you can mess with

there's probably more, but that's the stuff i remember. check out campaign speedruns from both games (yes, W2 has a campaign) to see for yourself

Thanks for the reply.

This is a way better answer than what I could find searching the web. I haven't personally played Worms 2, but I still have the original Worms Armageddon CD somewhere.

Did Worms 2 have support for maps that are actual paintings like Worms Armageddon has, or was this also a new feature of Worms Armageddon?
From the little time I played W2, I haven't figured out if hand-drawing on default-sized maps is a thing. It is a thing in WA tho.

Colour maps are a new thing https://worms2d.info/Colour_map

OK, I didn't know color maps (or PNG colour maps) was the same in Worms as hand-drawings. I just checked out the link you provided. I felt that I've read just that somewhere way back that the so called color maps was a new addition to Worms Armageddon, but that was a long time ago (1999 perhaps when I bought this game from the store).

In other words, Worms Armageddon made Worms 2 obsolete, as Worms Armageddon in many ways was Worms 2 Game of the Year Edition and replaced that game (just like the game Unreal Tournament 2004 replaced Unreal Tournament 2003).

Again, thank you very much for the replies.

True for the most part. But there are a couple of features Worms 2 has that aren't in Armageddon. For instance, there's more customisation options on how powerful you want to make each weapon iirc, and I believe there's a built-in way of creating custom soundbanks? Could be wrong about that last one but it could be worth looking into.

There's probably a couple other things Worms 2 has going for it, but I think most will agree Armageddon is a huge improvement.

The biggest thing that WA has that no other Worms game has, IMO, is replay files. Every single game you play gets automatically recorded to a tiny kilobyte-size file that you can play back frame by frame, slowmo, fast speed, and you can extract the maps/scheme/and super-precise logs from it, share it easily for others to watch etc. It records all the chat too. It's what makes external leagues in WA possible without needing a referee spectator in every game. Some people have thousands of replays dating back from the early 2000s and they all still play flawlessly due to all the developers' efforts with version compatibility.

the soundbank creator is also in WA, but it's missing the Hurry sample (also Collect sample needs a collect SFX)
