Worms Armageddon Anniversary Edition PC
Is it really going to be a console exclusive? Come on, that's no way to treat the platform that made the series thrive in the first place...

It's a humongous red flag that the trailer only features maps that were included in the original WA CD-Rom from 1999.

There's lots of discussion in these 5 pages about whether "mods" will be possible. However the most important thing is to determine whether the 20+ years of updates are included. If there are no replay files or custom maps it's a downgrade and a flop 100%. The same reasons why WWP is a massive downgrade compared to WA.

If this is the original WA (no updates) that would mean:
-No custom color maps online
-No big maps
-****No replay files****
-No extended scheme options (no more Kaos, way less control)
-Full of bugs and exploits (eg. placing girders that drown worms)
-Maximum 18 worms and 5 crates, very few mines/barrels on the map at once (iirc).
-Countless other downgrades

And the next important question would be if it's possible to share this user-created content such as maps and replay files.

They promise an improved online experience, but that probably just means some lazy half-baked features like matchmaking and buddy lists. It will not be improved if it's impossible to host using downloaded custom schemes and maps (including big color maps).

I am sure that some QOL improvements will be made to the game but overall it will likely be either VANILLA W:A or it will be based upon the most recent patch, even if the console versions are not able to take advantage of many of the features present within the PC version.

Replay files are not really going to be massively important for the average person who is considering this release, let's be honest. It's got limited online play / cross play and it's going to be a janky controller version of a game that was designed from the ground up for keyboard and mouse. This is just a cash grab. I cannot imagine why any console player would want to pick this up over Worms WMD since WMD is far better suited for consoles.

Maximum 18 worms? When? Maybe my memory is just gone from all of the years, but wasn't W:A up to 6 players and 8 worms per team from the very start? I've been around from the beginning and I don't remember a time without that.

But yeah, anyway... this release is for casuals. I can't see any reason to buy it at all. Team17 is anus juice nowadays...

Since no one has replied yet. Yes, there was originally an 18 worm limit, just like in Worms 2. Here's a demonstration courtesy of my 1.0 disk version of the game:

As I previously said, from the trailer it appears to be an older version of PC WA due to older graphics like the water. However, it's not 1.0 either since they're using updated weapon sprites (which I never liked, I don't understand why they put highlights on the bottom parts of weapons. I mean, light usually originates from the sky you know)

Interesting. I remember the early days but also I am not sure if we were really doing massive games like that. There were some Worms 2 guys who kinda dominated everyone for a while and eventually some pure WA gamers started to develop skill and the game also changed with various patches but as far as what was added when? Honestly, can't remember, especially since I was bouncing back and forth with WWP. By a certain point I had abandoned WWP completely but that was only because of the patches that made W:A better and better.

It's all kind of a blur, but (aside from the colossal waste of time) it was so much fun.

You mean it hasn't been announced for Steam or GOG?

Nope, but aside from the Interviews, this is just a port of an old PC version of the game, missing a lot of modern features as a result. As far as the game itself is concerned you're not missing out, you already have the better version

If I remember correctly the Anniversary Edition is on version 3.7 or so. So it's going to be choppy as the game is intended to run at 50FPS when modern monitors are only able to run at 60FPS. It is missing the motion interpolation introduced in 3.8.

Yeah, you can feel that. The camera movement is choppy.
