I guess I just want modern resolutions and that controller support sounds great.
Can someone fill me, are there patches/mods to bring the resolution up to modern standards?
No, and from the trailer it does not look like they updated any graphics. So no resolution bump for consoles either.
So having native controller support that also shows the controls in-game (like in World Party Remastered) would be ideal.
It's possible to upload and download configurations for and from other people, so if this is too daunting, if you want me to then I would love to try and set it up myself and you can test if it works for you (not today though since it's late)
I'd need to know which controller you're using (I believe you can apply configurations intended for another controller type on a different controller but I'm not 100% sure), and perhaps some other things you want out of it.
Though, frontend/main menu navigation will probably still require a cursor. I don't see any other way to make that work, realistically.
Another issue to be aware of is that these configs don't read game states. So with this config I just made, if somebody presses Circle at any time when it's impossible to open the inventory, that would mess it up and cause the d'pad to move the camera if not corrected by a second press. Fortunately, though, I think during gameplay it is always possible to open the inventory unless the game is paused so it shouldn't be a big deal.
While I do play Armageddon on my Steam Deck and I have created my own config, I never made any adjustments to weapon panel navigation since I always use F keys instead. So I'd be starting from scratch either way.
Sure, that would unfortunately be impossible without actual modding. Though I believe the controls aren't shown on-screen in any version of Armageddon, at least not during gameplay, so I don't think that's strictly necessary
Having custom backgrounds and voices in the pc version was the best! Team 17 has really failed us. Feels bad to be a Worms fan right now.
Wait, what about the "New display features such as modern aspect ratios, custom screen filters, enhanced HD and graphics options" Akira mentioned?
The original game (both PC and console) was 4:3 only, so the modern aspect ratios mentioned are probably just 16:9, 16:10. It probably won't allow arbitrary aspect ratios like on PC.
That is new I guess, probably something like CRT filters. You can try software such as ReShade if you really want that
I assume this is how far you want the action to be zoomed out (aka resolution) and background toggles, which was absent on the original console versions
All in all what I speculate they did was take the original PC release which was way ahead of any console version in terms of graphical and gameplay capability (number of sprites, sprite resolution, animation frames, there wasn't even the fire mechanic on consoles) and ported that to modern consoles. I doubt they get any of the modern community additions, whether in the form of WormKit modules or otherwise. I would be really surprised if you can even import custom levels
If that's all you want then Worms World Party Remastered is probably genuinely the superior version to this console re-release of Armageddon
takes too much effort to set-up and get comfortable with - basically the same argument ppl have to installing a module pack after downloading PC WA
It takes no effort since Steam automatically downloads the most voted config
But like I said, if there is any interest I would create a config with d'pad weapon selection in mind
If they can't release it as an update for free, I feel like they could at least distribute coupons for Worms Armageddon and Worms World Party Remastered owners, so as to get the Anniversary Edition at the price of a paid DLC.
